Single sidechain source for multiple 3rd party compressors/p

Hi!

I am currently using the sonalksis compressors for sidechaining a lot and , because I use several compressors I wanted to route one singel sidechain (e.g.kick) to more compressors at the same time. Currently I have to make about 5/6 audiotracks with an active kickdrum signal.
There should be an easier way in the future don't you think?

you could route all the tracks you want to sidechain to the kick to one bus track, or group them together in a group track and put the compressor on that?

I prefer to use a different compressor each for sidechained sounds anyway because sometimes you want different settings rather than using a bus or group track

I don;t know how the sonalksis comp works, but with Live's compressor you can use the same kick drum to sidechain every single compressor in your set if you want to

Yes routing to a bus would be usefull, but sometimes you want the one track to respond differently to the sidechain source than the other. With 3rd party compressors there has to be a seperate sidechain source PER compressor which is quite silly if you ask me. Also you want to be able to tap a sidechain signal from any audiosignal without chainging the channels destination output. You want to tap a little from the sends, to to speak. This way you do not have to multiply every channel that's used for sidechain sourcing....catch my drift?

By the way, the sonalksis compressors sound much better than the ableton ones...although the simple ducking effect isn't really quality sensitive...still better to use good compressors..

I actually think the most recent revision of Live's compressor is really good - never have any complaints sidechaining - maybe you should try it again, the workflow makes it dead easy, I don't think you'd really find it that much inferior

ok, didn't meen to disrespect your nifty little compressor here but still the option would save you a LOT of audiotracks unneededly open...

I'm sure you could do what you're wanting to do - Live is really good with routing.... I don't have those compressors and I don't have any problem with Live's compressor for sidechaining, so I'm not sure I fully understand the issue

have you tried using racks?

how do you sidechain with those compressors?

I tend to push all my sidechain (keyer) tracks to the far right of the session view, make them very narrow and then group them so that the take up no space.

its not as good as having multiple routings per track because largely you want to use the same key (kick, snare, vox) across multiple tracks but I find that at least this way they are out of the way of the main elements and I tend to forget they are there.

+1 on a more elegant solution though, please Ableton! A sidechain selector a la Live's in built compressor plug for all AU/VSTs would be ideal!

i have the sonalksis compressor but cant for the life of me work out how to use the sidechain function as you would live's built in compressor, anyone worked this out? any tips appreciated !i cant see how you select a sidechain input?? got same problem with the Softube FET compressor.

jus worked it out!!!
in case anyone else has same problem, add compressor to track you want to compress IE bass channel, activate sidechain on the compressor then have kick or whatever you want to be sidechain input routed to (audio to) the bass channel and the compressors sidechain as secondary destination
