2.01 timing (os 9.2.2)
2.01 timing (os 9.2.2)
Hi,
Does really nobody else experience timing problems in live 2.01? When i have a scene playing (without external syncing, just standalone), the clips start drifting slowly out of sync. Depending on the clips, this drifting is sometimes smaller, sometimes bigger. This was not the case in 1.52, where the clips stayed perfectly in sync. I have this behavior on an ibook/500 and a dual g4/867 both running os 9.2.2.
If anybody cares, and i would appreciate it, here's how to reproduce this 2.01 behavior (at least on my machines):
Load the Live 2 demo session.als
On Track 2, take the second 'ride 16th' clip that has 'org. bpm' set to 122.47 and loop length to 001, copy it to Track 3, turn the fx sends off on both tracks.
Start both clips together.
they play in sync now, it sounds like playing just one of them, only louder.
now change the 'orig. bpm' of one of the clips (any other value, e.g. 113.02).
It now sounds like there's flanger fx, i.e. the clips are drifting apart.
If you stop live and restart, you hear that the first beat is in sync, then it starts drifting.
Let the two clips play for a while. after 200 bars you could record the master out.
When i did this the two clips where approximately 30 ms apart.
For me this makes 2.01 basically unusable...
cheers

Yes i rogger that.kentai wrote:...the clips start drifting slowly out of sync. Depending on the clips, this drifting is sometimes smaller, sometimes bigger. This was not the case in 1.52, where the clips stayed perfectly in sync.

My first idea was i had to play my synthesizer more accurate, but that wasn't the problem. It is Live that seems to be drifting and not my playingtechnique.
This problem has to be soulved.
Peace,
F

Glad to see this is a known problem, considering i wrote Christian Kleine about this and he was not aware of it 2 weeks ago!
Btw: If the problem is related to the new warp modes, why don't you just give us back the 1.5 warping? i used warping on some clips to alter the sound on purpose, and none of the new warp modes sound exactly the same (besides the effort to readjust the clips).
And maybe i missed an new option, but why do the clips of an 1.5 live set have different colors in 2.0?

hm, i meant 1.5 warp mode as an option, or default when loading 1.5 live sets. ok, it's not so nice to have old stuff in a program, but i simply expect 1.5 live sets to sound (and look) the same in 2.0 as they do in 1.5.

"Beats" is the warping method from 1.5 (and earlier).kentai wrote:i used warping on some clips to alter the sound on purpose, and none of the new warp modes sound exactly the same (besides the effort to readjust the clips).

For extremely short warped loops, you may find that it sounds a bit different.
For clips of a half note or longer, the new "beats" mode should
be identical to the old. If you find that a clip sounds different
between the 1.5 method and the 2.0 "beats" method, it would
be great if you could send either me, yon, or gerhard (both
@ableton.com) a copy of the clip in question.
