well, don't take that out of context!!!

i said when it comes to engineering and production of goods.

i am not a racist or anything, but i like to see german engineering being the best in the world (which it sadly isn't anymore)

and the production quality of german products as well. (which it isn't either anymore)

The difference between 5400 & 7200 is significant, but when 7200 rpm hard disk come full (or near) it is slower than 5400 with full of data... So imho i will wait until SSD cost less...more less

It's not about Kruppstahl here, it's about electronics. Asians have surpassed us Europeans long ago, especially when it comes to producing in mass at an affordable price.

I can't compare directly to 5400, but I'm happy with the 7200 RPM drive in my MBP. Heat is not a problem, neither is battery consumption.

And because "working morale" is a whole different thing in countries like Japan.

Most people with money would still take a BMW or Mercedes over a Lexus (Toyota's posh brand) or Infiniti (Nissan's posh brand) for their reputation and resale value (some would say build quality too, but that's more subjective).

i am well aware of that, and there are still some incredible things being made, just saying (actually it really does piss me off!) that it was much stronger and a lot of stuff is really not that outstanding anymore... but could be if we would not become lazier and lazier and keep manufacturing here to a greater extend.

just saying.

Aw, come on.
To cheer you up, take a look which country originally provided most sequencers and many VSTs used worldwide today, including Ableton Live... Cubase, Logic, Samplitude, Native Instruments... the list goes on and on.

Yeah context is a bastard.

No offence intended. I live in Australia and we probably have just as many racial issues as any other place. Look up "cronulla riots" in youtube and you will see what racism looks like "down under"

Germans definately know what they are doing in regards to design and engineering. They knock out some sweet cars and killer sausages.

I think alot of the time in order to remain competetive companies who previously were known for quality have to cut corners. Unfortunatley once you have opened the gates to shoddiness it usually starts flooding.

Alot of companies lose sight of what it was that people liked them for in the first place.

I'm thinking of buying a new laptop (PC) exclusively for gigging.

It comes with a 320gb 7200rpm HD, but I could upgrade it to a 640hb 5400 rpm drive for 80$.

So my question is: should I go for performance with 7200rpm (and use that 80$ for an external drive which is safer anyway)

or get that bigger but slower 640gb drive, and maybe it won't generate as much heat (for gigs)

thanks
