Re: The No1 Wish for Ableton Live
ok, I added a +1 but then I tried to find the way to do comping and: IT WORKS! and so well!
It's difficult to me to explain because I'm not english but I try:
make a loop selection and clik the button to make a loop recording. Arm the track and start the recording.
evrey time that the loop restart you see that it overwrites the region recorded before.but you'll find all the recording lenght in the clip if you double click it! So if you have done a loop of 2 measures and recorded it for 4 times (4 looped takes) you will find a 8 measure lenght file. you can move the starting pooint of the loop in the clip to listen 2 measures at a times and. in the arrangement you can use the split command to separate the part you want to comping the right take. just try, it's fast and better than the multiple undertracks of logic and protools. cleaner, faster, ableton!

yes + 1000000 for BOUNCE IN PLACE : its an emergency !
But i would like to have a tool that , in arrangement view, allows you to make sections (without warping on like in session) and to try what is the best section for verse ,chorus etc... and after that apply that order automatically ,without to have to move ,cut, copy ,paste, insert time etc...
I know markers are a cool tool but no real time saver when you have to rebuild all the song by moving elements of the tracks, and when you have lot of samples it may be slow .
A bitLike THE TRACK PLAY ORDER in CUBASE ...
I know i can do it in session but with warp on and if i have sliced or chopped some sequences or loops and rearranged them in arrangement, i have to consolidate them one by one and drag them in session etc..no real time saver again.
Plus i would like to have a convolution device by ableton :a true real innovator thing that allow you to use it like an eq ,comp, preamp etc with a good impulses library full of great and legendary analog devices ...:a bit like nebula 3 by acusticaudio .

+1
This is necessary in my book. MOTU do it well, Apple does it well, we should see similar behavior in Live. I like how MOTU show you each take below one another on the same time line so the cuts appear to be vertical so that it looks logical when you are selecting the parts which comprise the comp.
Although, for now, I'm glad Ableton are focusing on the bug fixes... good job on that so far, 8.1.3 has been great.

Re: The No1 Wish for Ableton Live
come on guys..thats defenetly not the no1 wish for live.. generations of producers made it in the last decades without comping..and with a harddisk recording system you always can open a new track..with ableton even without limit...
comping is a rather new comfort feature that was as far i know first introduced into logic..or?
So why not using that program if you need comping? you can rewire ableton live..
besides, its pretty hard to include comping into session view.. i don´t really see how such a feature fits within a program like live..
i would say no 1 wishes should be essential without easy workarounds and should fit with the exsisting functionality.. in the best case they should be easy to implement...
so this is not THE No 1 wish

you can use a license on up to 3 computers afaik.kitekrazy wrote:Then I could put it on 2 of my other systems.
Re: The No1 Wish for Ableton Live
To have the ability to open more than one project at the same time as mentioned previously is a must.
The important thing is to be able to drop part of one project into another by dropping from window to window. This would help to arrange two seperate songs / musical passages / or more / comped together / to anable a new complete arrangement.

Re: The No1 Wish for Ableton Live
here's an easy workaround for comping that works with midi or audio:
record your takes to a channel like normal
turn snap off and set the trigger mode to legato
create a channel armed to record with the channel you want to comp takes from as the input
record a new clip on that channel and start recording clips into it
if that's too destructive, just record them into arrangement view

+ 1 for comping. Ale the described workarounds don´t do it.

It's funny that after 2 pages I still have no clue what comping is

if you buy another license, you won't have to pay the full price as far as I knowkitekrazy wrote:Price drop!

Re: The No1 Wish for Ableton Live
I second the fact that it needs a good reverb. Something like space designer, which is tha bom !

Re: The No1 Wish for Ableton Live
makes sense +! anything that keeps you from having to stop playing music to touch the mouse/keyboard and continues the jam is very positive and fits with the ableton workflow
Re: The No1 Wish for Ableton Live
H20nly wrote:2.) good reverb.
I'm with you 100% here. I want a new reverb that is algorithmic (like Aether)and convolution (like Altiverb). Even Robert Henke doesn't use Live's reverb. He uses Altiverb.
Besides reverb, I guess it would be nice to have some channel strip plug in modeled after hardware (Neve, or SSL). That seems to be the flavor of the month now (Sonar, Record).
I would also like to see Operator go from 4 operators to 6.
