I'm trying to use key mapping for the first time, specifically setting up my foot switch to control looper but when I go into key mapping and press the record button and hit the foot switch the track just starts playing. I also tried to cofigure other keys to trigger it but it won't set anything. I also just tried setting up random key mapping but nothing will assign to anything. Not sure what the deal is.
I am using a lot of control surfaces and I'm not sure if I have them configured properly, but they all play correctly. I am using:
M-Audio Projectmix I/O (as audio interface)
Akai APC-40 for Live Control
M-Audio Ozonic keyboard (running through the Projectmix midi in)
M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 (running USB)
Help would be appreciated!
Key Mappping, nothing happens?
Re: Key Mappping, nothing happens?
hey there,
in live there are two kinds of mapping: key mapping(mapping to a computer keyboard), and midi mapping(mapping to any controller that sends out midi) midi footswitches, midi keyboards.....
so if you are confusing the two, then yeah, it won't work. for example, if you try to map a button on the apc using key mapping, it won't work, but midi mapping will. just like if you tried to map a key on your computer keyboard using midi mapping won't work, but key mapping will. to get into these different types of mapping you can push either the "key" or "midi" buttons at the top of the ableton screen.
i don't mean to sound patronizing, it's just that when i was first learning about how midi, and ableton worked these things confused me also. this may not be your specific problem, but it might help.

also make sure you don't send a midi cc to the record button on looper as it won't work the way it should, use a midi note.

Make sure the MIDI devices are set up for remote control in MIDI options too! Best of luck.
