Standalone midi trigger pad to usb?

Post by cdiver186 » Mon May 17, 2010 1:29 pm

Ive been looking at something like the Alesis Pro Dual Z Pad. Its at the price I want, and the features and its basic - and Im pretty sure you cant simply connect it to a computer without some other audio equipment attached (Im assuming a midi to usb translator thing). Is in the hundreds seriously as cheap as trigger pads get? I mean, a midi keyboard seems much more complicated and can translate velocity into midi, so is there any alternative? €50 seems more than reasonable for a single cc controller that just outputs velocity.

ive been looking for the same thing. i bought some drum trigger pads and had some success with just plugging them into my soundcard and using this plug in - http://www.apulsoft.ch/

this lets you a sample and it triggers well - with velocity.

but i agree - there has got to be something better out there.. anyone?

Thats interesting swishniak, you connected an audio out to your soundcard? Or a midi out? Just, that all the single ones seem to only be extensions to larger kits. And you must use their hardware. Unless Im reading them wrong. How do you mean you got it to work with some success? Were there limitations or was it just a stability thing?

right - drum pads are essentially driven by a contact mic element. i plugged the 1/4 output of the pad into my motu ultralite. like i said it works well with the apulsoft plug.

but i would like to get a midi signal out of it. i made a pure data patch which does that, but it was too crashy. . a reactor version was too heavy on the cpu, but worked ok..

im hoping m4L is going to be the answer. . otherwise i might break down and buy a trigger to usb midi interface.

Ah, I see, i didnt realize they were mic driven. Even then - i still cant see it justifying the expense for a single trigger. The m4l idea will be an expensive experiment alright! But best of luck if you give it a shot! Questions still out there for finding a cheap standalone single or dual cc midi trigger!
