I can not hear a difference between a properly encoded mp3 and a wav-file.

I find it totally normal and OK that people use mp3s as ressource for djing or live PAs or even production.

I love the fact that a complete universe of music that is not available for purchase exists on the webs.

I totally encourage everyone to mashup music found on the webs and have fun with it.

I agree with you the only reasons why im fiddling with WAV is cuz my APC and i didnt want any more problems with my decoding cache. But mainly cuz the APC.

I agree that the difference between a high quality 320 MP3 and a WAV in a live PA setting is hardly noticeable if at all. But although in production i would still work with WAV or AIFF because theres little you can do editing wise to a compressed file such as mp3.

Go back to your bedroom and stay there. You don't deserve to be playing anywhere else.

do your homework and school time before you go onto any kind of stage, damn it.
uhh......I don't know where all this heat is comin from honestly but if its directed to me then i guess your not understanding my question.
because one should do the homework / schooling before going out and playing or calling themselves DJ / performer... just like Tod said,

if i misunderstood you and you do your homework / schooling with this thread, then i apologise.

peace.

so why the hell you ask such a question?, if you know the answer / reasons for yourself already, that is rather weird to me.

so don't be surprised receiving snappy answers.

Or anybody else got an idea of what i can do with all this mess?
it isn't really a mess,

your iPod will be quickly overloaded if using wavs, but it can read it.

as others said you don't really need to bother with the decoding cache, but I can understand your matter, and having all your files already in WAV could be time saving for ableton, or CPU lighter, in case you're djing in live with other stuff than just reading mp3s (VSTs, lots of routings, etc..)

if you got Disk space, let's have your mp3 collection for itunes/ipod, and a separate wav folder for your djing tracks.

don't listen to the heat with Subfunk and ChilDj, they sometimes like to GRRRRR GRRRRR with lots of irony and stuff like that, but theyre keen, just that they want to seem they're bad guys, or perhap's did they simply NOT read your whole post...

My apologies to the OP. I do understand your issue to be one of file conversion within LIVE and trying to optimize disk space. However, I still take offense to those who play mp3's in a club setting. I think you're selling yourself and your audience short by giving them a subpar sonic experience.

And for those of you who can't hear the difference, I believe you probably can't. Another reason why you should leave production to those of us who can.

yep, even i admit i mainly use AACs for space reasons, but i also take offence... i recently sent a DJ set as an AAC file to a guy i usually highly respect as a promoter and label owner... and he asked me back to send an mp3 instead... WTF???, i got real upset, deaf idiot, should leave what he does. really.

not a crap gig, but shit sound pretty much every time one is playing digital, the ones that use AACs or wav/aiffs are rare, well all the real 'big' DJs i know that use traktor or other digital media all play AAC or wav/aiff... in berlin it doesn't make much of a difference though, the sound systems here generally are so utter shite that it sucks either way. fair enough and annoying.

it is not about a bad gig or a dj that plays crap music, but after 2 - 3 hours and especially if people mix heavy you just get annoyed of the mp3 hollow, nerve wrecking sound at loud volumes, definitely YES!!!

same with pioneer mixers, you can obviously play awesome sets with them, but they still sound utter shit, give that same guy with his music a rodec or formula sound, etc. pure heaven in comparison...

don't be so extreme, that is exactly the point it's not a massive or extreme difference... it's the very fine difference between a gourmet listener and a fucked up whatever as long as it rocks guy.

Yeah but there is definitely a big difference between one who just want to be a dick, and those seeking help.

i have a dick, that is right. (a rather powerful one, just to point out)

and that, as tod pointed out, many can't hear the difference, fair enough, to me it's an insult to my ears.

and by the way my dick has already apologised for misreading him.
