ableton microkorg problems - noob stuff

Post by kinghippo » Thu May 20, 2010 10:00 pm

Hello All

I'm pretty new to Ableton and electronic music equipment in general and I'm having a few problems getting Ableton and my microkorg to get along with each other. I figured out how to get Ableton to recognize my keyboard through midi easy enough, but I can't find out how to assign my keys to a specific sound. For instance, I was trying to make a drum beat to play guitar with but only the last 3 keys on the Korg were working. Is there a way I can choose which keys trigger a specific drum?

Sorry if this is worded in a weird way, still learning all the technical jargon. :D

Thanks!

did you try loading a drum kit up? im not super familiar with the microkorg, I have an oxygen8 though and it should work similarly. the drum kit resembles mpc pads and runs accross a series of midi notes. it should correspond to the microkorg once you adjust the octave the microkorg is putting out, but it would be easier to use something like an mpd which automatically maps the drum kit to the pads.
Rebooting is overrated.

Yes I loaded up a drum kit but I don't know how to adjust the octave. I think the drum kit is set to an octave that the microkorg doesn't have.

Your octave up/down buttons are just above the modulation wheel.

turn local off and you can use the microkorg as your master keyboard, very useful!

Wow... I can't believe I didn't think of that earlier. Thanks so much!
