Max4Live Control Order With Automap
Max4Live Control Order With Automap
Is there some way to control the order controls created in a Max4Live device show up on Novation's Automap hardware? I'm creating an editor for one of my old MIDI synths, but I'm finding the controls come up on my ReMOTE ZeRo SL in the wrong order. Is there some way to explicitly set this in an M4L patch?

Re: Max4Live Control Order With Automap
If you open the "parameters" window in max you've found something call "order" (or something like that, I don't have max open right now) for each of the mappable controls. I think that's where you need to look at.

Hi bulo,
thanks for your quick reply. I'll give that a look!

Re: Max4Live Control Order With Automap
sorry guys, but as far as I know there is no possibility to use novation's automap with M4L-devices as Automap needs a vst-dll. You can only set up Automap as a midi control surface and control the M4L-parameters of the blue-handed device via MIDI.
And that doesn't even work satisfying because there's a delay/speedlimit in the feedback of M4L-paramters.
Please tell me if I missunderstand anything?!
cheers,

Re: Max4Live Control Order With Automap
Actually AutoMap works great with all Live's builtin devices (FX, Instruments and Racks), AND just as seamlessly with M4L devices. When you make a control in a M4L device, and select that device in Live, the controls appear on the screen of the AutoMap hardware. The only problem I was getting was that the controls were coming up in a random order. Hopefully bulo's answer above will help me fix that though.ring wrote:sorry guys, but as far as I know there is no possibility to use novation's automap with M4L-devices as Automap needs a vst-dll. Re: Max4Live Control Order With Automap
So I have a novation nocturn.
I can either add vst-plugin-dlls to automap. Then I can drag the plugin into ableton and a new page on the automap server will appear. (Also if I delete the plugin the page will be killed, too).
Or I can control ableton via the control surface. I can control the mixer and also ableton or M4L devices (always the one that is focused via the blue hand). That works via midi wich means that I have only 8 dials with a resolution of 0-127.
If you simply choose "Remote SL" from the control surfaces I think you're not dealing with novations AUTOMAP. Then you're just using MIDI!

I don't see an 'order' column. Am I looking in the right place?bulo wrote:If you open the "parameters" window in max you've found something call "order" (or something like that, I don't have max open right now) for each of the mappable controls. I think that's where you need to look at.

Re: Max4Live Control Order With Automap
There's an 'Order' parameter in the Inspector for each control, but I don't seem to be able to set different values for each controls, ie, I set it for one control, and all the other controls seem to now have the same value.

Yep, sorry, it's not "order", but "priority", and you're looking in the right place.
It's the # column.

Re: Max4Live Control Order With Automap
That works a treat, thank you bulo!
Hmm.... now I'm wondering if it's possible to group the parameters so they appear on consecutive banks of controls on the ReMOE Zero. It would be really cool to be able to have each Oscillator in it's own bank, then the Filter with a bank. I suppose I could create some controls that didn't actually do anything, to fill up each bank....
