just saying....
I'm OK with that.
I don't get people who change their opinion because a person is dead etc?
A dead bass player doesn't make Slipknot all of a sudden a good band,
and nobody was saying that the guys in Slipknot are all assholes because their music sucks.
Some of the coolest people my bands over the years have played shows with have been in bands that sucked ass.

Some of the most reprehensible people make great music, some of the nicest people make commercial garbage, there really isn't any correlation IMO.

I can reaally enjoy slipknot, but can't stand out those fans, too scene.
I can't understand why people say these people aren't talented.
Drummer is insane and has style, guitars are fresh, singer has a great throat.

I'm a run of the mill guitar player talent wise, nothing they do I couldn't pull off.
Drummer is nothing compared to the greats, and the singer is a matter of taste.
Personally ANYBODY who sings with any semblance of nu-metal or emo style in their voice I'm going to dislike.
You don't IMO tonally and melodically sing brutal violent lyrics over brutal violent music, it's gay in the worst way: obsessed with gloss, image and style over substance.
The thing is again just like Pendulum they took all this "crazy" stuff from the underground and glossed it up for the mall kids.
50 gallon oil cans as drums never sounded so contrived and seemed so much a gimmick. I'll gain more respect for their costumes if they
give mad props to Gwar and Kiss, hopefully they have.

The only singer IMO who ever pulled off melodic singing over brutal metal was the guy from Anthrax, there was humor there to save that mutant shipwreck from sinking.
Plus SOD was much more fun to listen to IMO! :twisted:

rest in peace Paul!
though it already looked like it was only a matter of time, since his drugged car accident a few years ago.

i was and still am a Slipknot fan, ofc the newer stuff got pretty gay and sold out emo like, but thats the times we live in.^^ THANX GREEN DAY!!!!

but Slipknot and Iowa really influenced and helped me during my wild wasted stupid youth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
one last thing i always will opine, is that Music doesnt have to be "technically" ambitious.
the one thing people always said about Sk. was that you could do the same songs with only 4 guys aswell, and that it was technically inelegant.
if it sounds good and the people like the show, keep it that way!
ofc its cool when its technically impressive -and- sounds good, see Mudvayne, -freakin'- awesome bass player
but the most important thing is the good sound :D
furthermore, toghether with some others (korn, soad,etc) they struck a whole generation.
and they -created- new metal.
amazing powerfull songs! i remember my cousin litterally throwing up (he was drubk aswell) the first time i showed him the song "Eyeless".
again he was drunk, but the Song was so loud and agressive that he really got (SIC) haha^^
and omfg my first KoRn concert :D:D:D ah those were the days :D
guess thats all!°
again, RIP, and all condolences to the Family and the 8 brothers!
I listen a lot harder/chaotic/weirder stuff then Slipknot, and there are more sick drummers then their drummer, but I prefer the WAY he drums, just like I like the Deftones drummer's styl, it's easy listening but it's genius to me, to me it's not about technique the whole time. I like it when bands create their own unique sound / world .. they succeed in giving the music a feeling, whatever you like that feeling or not
And about pendulum, it's not just for mall kids, why for mall kids? Because it's clean? I think there's a lot of creativity in it, production-wise, and they've got a really good live act and people are having a blast at those concerts.
In the end it's all about your personal music-taste.
PEACE
Seriously, we have NOTHING in common music taste wise.
I see nothing original or creative about either Slipknot or Pendulum.
Sorry man, IMO you like your music with some pop thrown in, why people don't just say that I'll never know?
Instead it's pages of internet babbling about how Slipknot, Pendulum or BT etc. are unique, when they clearly are not.
They all take certain parts of the underground music scene and add more conventional tried and true pop elements.
Look, there's nothing wrong with that in the sense that it's how pop music glacially changes etc. but it's a far cry from unique.
Pop or commercial music is the antithesis of unique.
Analogy time:
I like some traditional music and country, not much, but some. I would never say that because some country band has a punkish edge to it, that they're unique.
It's just not the case, they play traditional music with a slight amount of modern tinge, it's far from unique. Doesn't mean I can't like it though.
Mall kids I'm using as a way to say people who have a really standard taste in music, who know about bands they hear on the radio and TV.
People do value creativity, but most are caught off guard when they hear something raw. For instance when I was a little kid Hardcore Punk was crazy sounding to me, as I had little reference to hearing stuff that roughly recorded and with that amount of speed and noise. Same is true for people and the more commercial bands, they help transition people into more eclectic music, but for many, it's as far "south" as they're willing to go. Fine, just don't insult people who listen to the Dead Kennedys by calling Green Day "creative" you dig?
In the end it's all about your personal music-taste.
PEACE
Totally, don't think I hate all sell out music, just Slipknot. :wink: Mostly because before I heard them I thought they were going to blow my mind.
^Oh look. Yet another thread where the King Shite Hawk rags on yet another 'popular' band whilst simultaneously trying to make someone else feel like shit because they happen to like the band but then he temporarily feigns innocence/guilt for being such a cunt but then - just as quickly - crawls back up his own arsehole like nobody's business.
Try a PM next time you want to stink up the forums with off topic ad hominem attacks.
It's what the Abes would like anyway.
forum member quotes you with .jpg attempting humor blaming me for confusion. This coddling of you is seen by you as much win.
omfg. :lol:
^ That was the the first shot - fired by you.....prior to me even addressing you personally in that thread. In fact, I was trying to keep it humorous by making light of a bizarre spat between you and john doe.
Insults and retorts should not be this complicated.
lol. Amazing how different the responses were after my comment. john took my comment in the spirit that it was intended - a joke not directed at either one of you, and made another one in response.
But you? Right to the muck. lol. Cool. Listen, got no beef personally with you. But if you think you're gonna dress me down here for something that you started, and then expect me to NOT respond in kind, than you're truly insane. :P
There was no spat between us, Jeezuz dood, read the posts again, john doe was humoring my "generic response" routine.
Our senses of humor for some goddamn reason are on different planets. You keep on getting confused, taking things I say personally, and instead of writing it off jabbing back without a drop of humor in your posts. To the point of following me around like H20nly does to dum. I mean I'm flattered and all, but really? Shit at least the lounge is the place to do this crap, so....
OK OK which Slipknot song were you going to have played at your funeral? :lol: :lol:
I actually attended a funeral where Free Bird was played, no kidding. 8O
