Ok, I've read and re-read the manual, and I can't seem to find an answer to this:
Machine is an Ibook 933Mhz, 1GB Ram with a Tascam US-122 sound interface.
When I just record straight from a microphone through the Tascam and into Live, there is a very small latency involved.
As soon as I use the TRS ins on the Tascam, the latency goes through the roof.
I have even tried it by removing the Tascam, and just using my Line6 PodXT as the input device, and the latency is very very bad.
I have tried everything the manual suggests, I have updated all drivers for everything involved, but still the issue exists. Any ideas?
Thanks
Ross

well that is weird.
lets just go through this bit by bit: when you say latency, are we talking about the sound that comes OUT of the 122 WHILE you're playing along, or are we talking about what get's recorded to the track in live? i.e. are you sure you're not inadvertantly using Hardware Monitoring for the vox but Live! monitoring for the TRS ins?

Thanks for the reply...
When I say Latency I mean what is actually getting recorded. I monitor "in the air", for the TRS ins, which is usually guitar parts. So if I have the track playing back through the speakers, and I play along with it, the recorded part comes out sometimes as much as 75ms, or more, out of sync
WIth the vox I monitor through the Direct channel on the 122. I have tried monitoring the guitar this way, but the effect is the same.

I'm having very similar issues with recording midi-triggered sounds from an external synth. See my post at http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19063
Thanks.
Thanks.

spider,
first, minor possibility, make sure you're 122's chromatic tuner is not displayed, that uses bandwidth and could slow down the TRS signal.
second, there's an aspect to latency that makes it hard to troubleshoot. that's because there's more than one reason for it! It could be:
a) the original track is being delayed while being played (because of some plug in effect) so that, by the time you hear it and play along, it's actually going to the track late and/or
b) you're hearing the original track in good time but your playing via the TRS input is taking longer than it should to get to the track, and again seems late.
In your case (a) seems unlikely because I'm assuming you're recording both your vox AND your guitar over the SAME "backing track", but you could rule it out by starting a blank set, kick off the live metronome, and then "clap" along using the mic first, then tap along on your guitar and see if you're still getting the latency difference.
If that still exposes the same latency issue, i'd try posting on the Tascam forum, as to me sounds like something perculiar to the device.
let us know how you get on?
