Strange Tempo Problem with Live and Triton

Post by Chalupa » Wed Apr 20, 2005 2:03 pm

Hello everyone
I am hoping you can help me understand an phenomenon.
my friend is using live 3 with his korg triton keyboard and recording through
and m-audio delta 44 pci interface audio card
they are not synchronised by midi
when he records audio from the korg into live he is saying that
the tempo is drifting
he has lives internal clock set to be at a 136 bpm and the same with the internal clock of the korg
when the clip of several minutes length is done recording
he moves the first warp marker to the correct position of the first beat
to adjust for the gap created because of latency in the computer
but as he views further down the clip the warp grid is not aligned even though the clip property shows it is constant 136 bpm
the tempo drifts further and further off for the duration of the clip
he has to increase the bpm towards 137 and sometimes greater for a longer clip
i told him perhaps he should midi sync the 2 machines for more accuracy
but it still does not seem that this should be occuring
does anyone have some knowledge to help us understand this or fix it?

ok we have talked to Korg and we learned a couple things
they have told us
1. if recording a pattern from the korg dont use a loop
if the you want to record 64 measures write a 64 measure pattern
DONT record an 8 bar loop repeating 8 times
2. its best to slave the triton to the DAW for the most accurate results
not having them both running on independent clocks
