How long will you wait to upgrade to Live 9?
Re: How long will you wait to upgrade to Live 9?
Current financial situation means that I may not at all. I almost didn't last time but for that coupon. Still, I'm happy with 8 at the moment.

They're battling a negative image with all this unstable talk, so I would imagine that bug fixes remain a priority for a while.
coming out with 9 anywhere near would be the stupidest thing ableton could do marketing wise.
they have to ensure to restore their highly damaged reputation with 8 first, and maybe even implement a few missing baby basics within some free upgrades within 8, once 8 is stable for much more people then now again.
within 8, they still have a buffer to mess it up... 9 needs to be way over any expectation possible to restore their image, way, way over expectations, they need to work so hard on it that they surprise themselves, otherwise it's a fail.
they messed it so badly up, that they have to work now quadruple (and even more) hard on it.

I also wonder too if they would just push 8 behind them & charge straight onto a newer coded version with 9 and try to forget v8 like a dead hooker in your trunk. Don't you remember the videos they posted looking for employment in the tech/code/programmer department? Its like they knew they made some monster with 8 after its deployment onto the market & then started over from scratch with new developers for v9. Because ya know---Technology companys are always versions ahead of there current available products.
Personally v9 would have to have some badass newer toys inside it & some extended money back guarantee would have to be implemented. I'm just saying.

8 works just fine for me, i dont particualrly want or need any other features written into it so upgrading live is probably the least likly place my money would go.

Nobody pays for a new software when he payed for one that didn't work for
him before, and I think that Ableton knows that and work to make the actual version stable.
Going to the next version is not a proper way to go...

No! I'll never use the Push-App Live 9 !!!

Unless they offer a really special upgrade incentive???simpli.cissimus wrote:Nobody pays for a new software when he payed for one that didn't work for

Re: How long will you wait to upgrade to Live 9?
well 8 was pretty stable for me until the last update.....now disc dropouts are common and shut downs frequent..
shame as i love this DAW but damn if this isnt making it hard to work with
Im seriously considering Studio One as I need a new audio interface soon anyway....

+1 I second the money back guarantee but it will never happen. They should after this last year, but it would set a horrible trend for the DAW industry. It would be great for the customer's but since you could just by the software and burn it, they can't possibly issue a money back guarantee.squelcht wrote:My thoughts as well.SubFunk wrote:+1elxicano wrote:I would definitely beta test an available version too and very likely upgrade when available... that said... Which leaves the consumer SCREWED.
Any other product performing this poorly and we'd get refunds

Seems like Ableton, in order to generate money went to fast with implementing MFL,
which caused buggy code for Live. I can see this great audio application turn to
bloatware in the future, but do hope I’m wrong. Time will tell, but I’m already
looking at other options for a daw just in case I have to migrate.

Re: How long will you wait to upgrade to Live 9?
Ableton is doing the right thing in making sure that Live 8 is stable before embarking on Live 9.
Apple did a similar thing with their Leopard to Snow Leopard release:

"At WWDC 2008, Bertrand Serlet announced a move that he described as "unprecedented" in the PC industry.
That's right, the next major release of Mac OS X would have no new features. The product name reflected this: "Snow Leopard." Mac OS X 10.6 would merely be a variant of Leopard. Better, faster, more refined, more... uh... snowy.
This was a risky strategy for Apple. After the rapid-fire updates of 10.1, 10.2, and 10.3 followed by the riot of new features and APIs in 10.4 and 10.5, could Apple really get away with calling a "time out?" I imagine Bertrand was really sweating this announcement up on the stage at WWDC in front of a live audience of Mac developers. Their reaction? Spontaneous applause."

Re: How long will you wait to upgrade to Live 9?
If only Apple took the same approach to Logic (just make your 'features' work)... well I would still be using it.
Instead I found Live. It has been a real joy, and I stopped updating at 8.05.
The Abes commitment to stability & usability is a huge factor in riding out this '8-glitch'.
IMHO - That they have communicated so publicly is a hallmark of commitment to me.. their customer.
I will not be beta testing.. there will be little point, as I'm not a power user and I'm on out-dated equipment.
Would anyone really care about bugs on an old PPC mac with an OX 2/3 versions behind?
I would wait to update to 9.. well until Oblique & Subfunk are knee deep in 9 and screaming its praises.
Until then I'll stay behind the curve and productive.

2.8ghz Quad Mac, Live 9.77, Remote25, Maschine 1, Fa-66 optical link, Samson 65a. Dog hair.. lots.
Re: How long will you wait to upgrade to Live 9?
I won't be updating unless they come up w/ some feature that would absolutely make or break my set. Seeing as I can't think of a feature that would make me do that I think it would be pretty safe to say that I won't be an early adopter to 9.
Hell, I'm still figuring out everything I can do w/ 8.
