ableton live 8.03 and mac 10.5.8 - cpu spikes?

Post by aLex+R » Sun May 30, 2010 2:51 pm

Hi all,

Sometimes when I a launch a new clip a 1-2 sec delay occurs+ a crackle noise...
I realised that a huge CPU spike cause this problem... What can I do? I can't use the software live anymore. The hard disk overload indicator does not flashes.

Cheers...

Hi Alex,

does the problem also occur with the latest update, Live 8.1.3? You can find it here.

Same problem for me, and I'm running the 8.1.3.

OK - Please check this out, as it's worked for me, so far...

I noticed this problem first appeared after mucking around with some Max/MSP MIDI crosstalk. I employed the IAC Bus in Mac OS X (whatever Windows equivalent there is, I would wager it's having a similar effect), later opting to use M4L to make the whole process streamlined.

Having enabled the IAC Bus for MIDI input and output in Live's MIDI preferences (as well as a control surface), I never bothered to disable it. This is when the spikes started...

I just turned off the output driver and control surface configuration, and I haven't had a single CPU spike nor any activity above 5%...

Hope this helps until Ableton can address the issue...
