APC40: can I launch clip and send MIDI with one button?
Hi there
Is it possible to make a clip launch button on the APC40 launch a clip and send a MIDI message at the same time?
(I want to launch a clip in session view AND start playback at a locator in arrangement view by pressing one button on the APC40)
Best regards Nikolaj

Like Bome's? Does anyone have an idea about how to do it?

I've downloaded MidiPipe and read your thread, but I really don't know what to do. Could you guide me a little please?

Re: APC40: can I launch clip and send MIDI with one button?
Does the APC send midi messages? If it does, just press the MIDI mapping button (top right), mouse-click the things you want to control/launch, and press the APC button. The same MIDI message can be mapped to two or more items. The fact that one is in the session view and the other in the arrangement view might be a problem, but I don't know.
I send the same MIDI message to various items with my BCR2000 and it works fine, but I have never tried it across views.
Cheers,

The problem is that when I do this, the LED's of the Clip Launch Buttons no longer work, and you cannot use the Bank Select buttons on the APC...

Re: APC40: can I launch clip and send MIDI with one button?
All of the buttons or just the one? Do the lights go out entirely? I am asking because I would like to understand how Ableton is approaching their MIDI programming with controllers, the APC and others.
Frustrating, no? The lights go out because Ableton sends a MIDI message out after a clip has played through one rotation- (Portamento On/Off <63 off, >64 on). It turns the lights off, unless there is power in the controller that is independent of the MIDI CC#. I am hoping that with a future update they will allow more tweaking of the messages that Live sends to controllers. I have tried some hacking of the MIDI code within the Live package, but so far, no success. The guys at Cycling tried some too, but as far as I know they couldn't figure out the light issues.
I am not sure why the APC lights work with the clips, showing the light. I assume it is because the APC is powered outside of bus, and so the lights are controlled independently.
I am planning on working on this issue, so if I figure something out I will write about it. At the moment, I live with the dark.

Re: APC40: can I launch clip and send MIDI with one button?
The buttons that I MIDI Map stop working as Clip Launchers, and just work as "on/off" buttons. So the LED light and Bank select functions are disabled for the mapped buttons.
And I really cannot figure out how to make it work as both things at a launch button and a re mappable midi button at the same time
