Good price for an Atari ST 1040?

Hey team-

I've heard the Atari sequencers are legendarily stable, and I've found a guy that's got a few of them up for grabs. My question to you:

What is a good price for an Atari ST 1040, monitor, mouse, and some notation app hardware dongles?

The guy didn't sound 100% sure of what all he had, and he was quoting some ebay prices (which seemed a bit high), but I figure some of you guys would know. He did say the words Ensoniq and Steinberg, so that sounds promising, at least.

decades ago i gave mine away for nothing... any mobile phone has 1000 times more cpu power today.
you know it´s only midi and you need complete outboard to hear anything? with horrible timing?
and you know it has a black&white screen (no gray!) in the size of a postcard? and so much ram that you couldn´t even load a screenshot of your actual desktop?

to have an atari st today is a nice retro accessorie like a super 8 film camera or a wooden washing machine.

I was way more productive on my ST and outboard gear but seeing as ive lost my musical mojo in the last 12 months

I have an Atari Mega ST with monitor and includes Steinberg Cubeat (Same as Cubase but without notation)
All working and looking for a good home.
Im in UK if any one is interested drop me a line....shipping internationally could be an option but the monitor weighs a friggin tonne so would prefer UK.

I had an Atari ST 1040 STE and Cubase, the dongle was horrible but the midi timing was rock solid, better than anything I've achieved on a PC since. I used to use it with my Kawai K1 synth, Boss DR550 drum machine and Yamaha DX100 into an 8 track reel recorder (Fostex R8) and I loved that set up. It handled MIDI and SMPTE sync really well.

I probably wouldn't revisit it though. I sold all this stuff years ago because I couldn't bring it to Canada for practicality and voltage issues.

Steinberg Pro 12 and Cubase and C-Lab Notator (which morphed into Emagic Logic) were the top sequencing programs, simple MIDI sequencer type stuff.

Colour monitors were also available for Atari ST as an option, it's just that they weren't very common compared to the monochrome monitor which came with the package.

Colour monitors were not hi-res, b/w ones were.
If you really miss the St, go with an emulator. Start here.

the most valuable part is the monochrome monitor because they die... ive seen prices up to 100 euro for one of them... dont get the colour.. music software dont runs with it..

dont go for any other than a mega st.. because this are the stable ones... the others was crashing on a daily base aswell..
i ve my mega running in a loop since live starts crashing on me last may... so it runs now over 12 month constantly without crash or data loss..

you can get a mega for 50 euros...

the software... depends.. if it comes with an smpte interface you might pay 50 euro for that interface alone.. the software is in the case of cubase free allready...

so i would say 200.- for a complete package is a correkt maximum.. usually you get them for free when you ask musicans where they collect dust for years...

instead of an atari i would much rather get an old AKAI MPC, either the 60 or 3000.
