New Song - Galactic Holiday

Post by GrooveNinja » Tue Jun 01, 2010 5:23 pm

This is my latest song. It is sort of an electronic-jazzy-pop song. Let me know what you think! In particular, how is the frequency balance, clarity of the instruments, and reverb levels? I wanted a lot of reverb in order to try to attain a sort of dreamy, space travel-like atmosphere, but I am afraid that I used too much.

Thanks for listening!

Everything seems to be in balance and well mixed. Not too much reverb at all. Thanks for the share.

Cool! Thanks for listening. When mixing a track, I have to listen to it so much that I eventually stop hearing it, and it becomes difficult to assess it objectively. Fresh ears really help!

I enjoyed the track, maybe shorten the intro by a tad.

The mixing was quite good, reverb not too prominent and drowning the song so that was fine, the kick-bass seperation could maybe be a touch better for a slightly punchier low end but many other tracks I listen to on here are much worse and muddier, this is satisfactory here, but a little extra clarity on the lows could be achieved and slightly enhance the mix.

Yes, I listened to it again, and I quite agree. It somehow seems to have gotten longer since I added the "Galactic Holiday" voice in there, even though it hasn't. How strange. I guess I'll just chop out a couple of measures.

The kick and bass were rather difficult, because they do occupy the same frequencies. Perhaps my choice of patch for the kick was unfortunate. I duck the bass with the kick, but maybe some further EQ will do the trick. Thanks for the comments!

Sweet track GN, chill and charming. Just on headphones so can't really say much mix-wise other than it sounds pretty good in the cans.

question did u use a snare drum at all in this song? i really couldnt hear one. I think if u added a nice snare it would drive the beat a bit more other than that sounds good.

No, I didn't use a snare per se because I used the hammer sounds instead. I thought that the addition of a snare might be too much, but I will try it to hear what happens.
