Novice new user- Help making dubstep

Post by Jaded Edge » Mon Jun 14, 2010 2:53 pm

Hey guys.

Im a brand new user recently purchased Live 8.

Jsut getting my head around it all, bought a few nice native instruments plug ins too.

Got a tutorial but found it quite boring to follow after a few sessions to Im going alone now giving it a go on my own.

Just wondering If anyone knew of any decent Templates for Drum n bass, dubstep and electro house to follow?

Not really sure how to set up my percussion so would be phat to have some of these to help me along the way.

I also found a great video tutorial for dubstep basses and it tells me to use Simpler?

Ive noticed this is just above midi effects (Mine is empty) on the video, but I dont have SIMPLER ?

Why would mine be missing???

Hi,
Live has very good built in tutorials and demo arrangements. Give them an hour and you would save a lot of time later...

Simpler is in the instrument folder. The instrument folder is just on top of the midi efx folder.. you need to download the sample they use in the tutorial and drop it in the simpler window..

cheers

Download the latest Live from http://www.ableton.com/downloads

Then reinstall... Maybe you did not install the library for some reason.

Maybe you're looking into the library folder instead of the proper device browser?

Live provides you a number of browsers. In the left corner, the uppermost browser right below the "Hide browsers" marble is the device browser. It should show you three folders on top level, named "Instruments", "MIDI Effects" and "Audio Effects". Open the Instruments folder to see all available Live instruments - Simpler should always be available. If you now drag this item into Live, you go with a plain, empty Simpler. You can also open Simpler as a browser folder (by clicking the small triangle) to see (and load) its available presets into Live.
Best,

Torsten

That helped thankyou.

On the video I have been watching it looks like the guy is dragging simpler down to the bottom, In actual fact off screen he is dragging it across to the sequenc layout.

I guess he didnt noticed he didnt cover this for novices like me :/
