The World Cup Thread
Re: The World Cup Thread
Cracking performance for Germany going forward and looking solid at the back. To be fair though, aus down to ten flatters the scoreline AND the aussie defence really was full of holes. Holes they won't get against better teams. But bottom line is who wants to play Germany now?
You win big, you shit up the oppo, you do well in the tourny.
simples.

Sorry Russ, I was going to post this anyways but your post just happened to compliment mine rather nicely.

Interesting article about one of the upcoming Slovakian players, Weiss, here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/chrisbevan/2 ... can_s.html

Re: The World Cup Thread
i think the aus v germany game was a text book case of getting your tactics completely wrong. australia were a complete mess. formation left them to thin in midfield, the germans spread them thinner, the defence had to cover deep and they got spanked big time.
i really liked how the germans would catch them on the break, draw the defence out and down towards the touchline and knock it back to the edge of the box. were they had two or three players waiting unmarked.
i would have liked england to try that rather than the usual down the wing and pass across the face of goal / gazza /owen / rooney back post slide in, hoping to get on the end of it.
if we meet the germans next round we will be in trouble.

Don't worry we drew the first game in '66 and won and we drew the first game in '90 and got to the semis.
It's all good.

Re: The World Cup Thread
Italy drew all 3 group games in 1982 and still went on to win, and broke my heart by beating the awesome Brazil team of Socrates, Falcao, Eder, Junior and Zico etc, which is probably the best team never to have won the world cup (along with Cruyff's Holland in 1974). No Brazilian team since has matched the purity of passing and attacking soccer since, even the World Cup winning teams. Just a pity they had a clown (Felix) in goal and didn't defend too well

we were weak though. im more disappointed as i have faith [oh the irony] in capello. 4 years ago i would have called that a fair result under the last bunch of losers.UKRuss wrote:Don't worry we drew the first game in '66 and won and we drew the first game in '90 and got to the semis.

BBC, had a hillarious brainfart and have let Chris Moyles commentate on this NZ vs Slovakia match. Usually I hate the Moyles, but as a eejit commentator, he's not too bad. Certainly different. You don't usually hear the commentators yell out "rubbish, that was a rubbish corner. They really aren't very good at football this lot"
Red button, if you are curious. You'll need to leave half your IQ at the door of course.

Re: The World Cup Thread
Nice equaliser from NZ... kinda deserved it too, though Slovakia played better, their goal was offside. German commentary was mildly patronising in bored tones...
Next matches today will be interesting... especially the first if Drogba's played...

lol... morning sports talk guys in DC here bet $200 on Slovakia to win it (they would have only won $100) as a sure thing... they are bitter now.8O wrote:Nice equaliser from NZ... kinda deserved it too, though Slovakia played better, their goal was offside.
