Dough Head - Dubstep

Post by DaddyHam » Thu Jun 10, 2010 7:53 pm

WIP - Part A of a new Dubstep Track. Not much mixing, eq'd each track and threw a limiter on the master. EIC string intro.

Can't say this track did a whole lot for me, but that's just my opinion, so don't let it stop you. Its not a bad start though, I will offer one suggestion: this track isn't super intense, or dramatic, or has a ton of energy, which is fine, but often times you need to keep the listener intrigued in other ways. Cheers though, keep at it

Wazzup Daddy Gabriel. We haven't heard from you since Feb. It is definitely banging like dub but me thinks you need to modulate the bassline somewhat like you did @3:00 to make it wobbley. I like the orchestral intro. Why did you take your older posts down from Soundcloud like Play Ball? Sometimes I like to go back and listen to older post for a reference to the artists' style, growth, and improvements. As always, your share is appreciated. Thanks!

OK thanks for the feedback guys. Good on you tiennon for remembering that track name. I guess I just took it down as I wanted to do some work on it. I think I'll work on the arrangement then and move the second bass earlier in the mix and go from there. Also I'll try adding some percussive elements to the second part of the song to create a bit more energy, but I am having a hard time finding anything melodic for a lead with the second bass sound.

OK I tried to clean up the arrangement a bit, added a 3rd wobble bass and some overused gunshot sounds to finish out the track.

Nicely done. Still something overly bright at times but I can't decide if it is the bassline wobble should be more in the bass freq's or the lead synth should be less. Gunshots always work when used sparingly especially for dub. Thanks again.

Thanks tiennon, I split the bass up into 3 tracks and when the lead comes in I just wiped out the high end of the bass, so I'll EQ the lead and the high end wobble down a bit.

hey man, I liked the track. I was definitly nodding my head through it. I'm getting kinda tired of that dub sound tho. I liked your addition to the middle of the track that new wobble effect deal.

I could be wrong, but when i told my friend who is a mastering guy that i used limiter on master track he said to never do that. His reasoning was that if you want to send your song off to get mastered there is no point in using limiter because he is just gonna use a much better hardware limiter. He recently mastered the newest EoTo album "fire the lazers", and said that some songs had to be redone because travis used a limiter on the master track.

If im wrong correct me!, just trying to pass on the info

That my understanding as well Jharling. The ME prefers not to have any processing on the master chan. I believe that is the standard.

Your first alteration of the bass line is about 3:00. So, imho the track lacks a little bit of suspense. On the other side, the sounds you have choosen, are quite good.
