i got the impression that centrinos were more for checking email and light stuff as opposed to playing with audio. i'd advise against specifically going for a light (weight wise) laptop as it will be less robust and if you're gigging you want something that isn't going to be flimsy. my toshiba satellite p10 is heavy as hell, but it makes me more comfortable that it is going to maintain its structural integrity longer than a thin laptop. my previous laptop was a compaq presario and was a total piece of crap. when i played with mitchell akiyama and tomas jirku they were both using thinkpads that kicked the compaq's ass! my .02 cdn. andrew

mine does very well in term of computing power. I mainly use reaktor, and with the blue matrix on snapshot jam jarre, @44.1kHz I get 10,1% don't know with live as I just install it but didn't start to use it. with reaktor centrinos are better than the other cpu, due to floating point calculation to be better with these. that's what expert said on the native forum.
before I had a titanium 667 and it is ten times powerful.don't know if it is solid, but I'm not doing gig.mainly for home use and at friend's home.

mine is an older Acer Aspire, and while I really love this laptop in terms of ergonomics and screen quality, it took me about three months to get it to work in a stable way with audio at low latency. This is due to some hardware stuff that acer built in for their proprietary "multimedia" features. I literally had to experiment with every soundcard out there and search all over the net for months for solutions. But if I had to, I'd probably do it all over again, because I haven't seen another laptop in the price range that comes close.::mic-minimal:: wrote:hmmmmm, acer huh, gonna check that out
Hopefully, they have resolved those issues by now.

thanks
Great to have that personal myth dispelled. Thanks for the tip. Take care. Andrewparaclude wrote:Centrinos work fine. Check out the Live Perfomance Test thread and that will give you an idea of how various processors stack up against one another.
