Sampler Instrument Rack works not properly in Drum Rack

Post by baltazar » Wed Jun 16, 2010 9:47 am

Hi all,

i have some problems with Sampler in Drum Rack. I loaded few samples into a sampler, grouped into instrument rack with just 1 sampler and mapped sample selector to macro 1 and other parameters to all other macros. The idea is to load a sampler with up to 128 samples into a drum rack cell and then just select the right sample while triggering it instead of searching the right sample with the hot swap button + you can do basic changes with the macro ( like pan, volume, transpose & ADSR ). I hope the idea is clear.
When i load the racked sampler into a midi clip it works just as it has to work. I can change the drum on the fly with Macro 1 ( Sample selector ) & all other parameters with macro 2-7.
Problems start when i drag & drop such rack into a drum cell - lets say C1. Live loads just a sampler without the macro mapping and drum rack somehow "overtakes" the macro mapping from instrument rack - just like that :

Am i doing something wrong here ?

Added : Here how it looks when i load the instrument rack into a midi track :

no way!
i have a few homemade Sampler instrument racks with sample select macros here, but i've never noticed that before.

the fact that the drumrack overtakes the mapping is actually a bonus for me - it saves having to manually macro-map the Instrument Rack macros to the Drum Rack macros. cheers for the tip

but if you don't want the automatic mapping, drag the Sampler instrument rack to a midi track, right-click it and select 'group to drum rack' instead.

[EDIT]
STOP PRESS!!!
just discovered that you can hold 'cmd' while dragging the instrument rack onto a cell, and it will create a druminstrumentrack thingy instead, and won't forward the mappings to the main drum rack. nice! maybe these things should be in the manual, rather than being easter egg features..

ok but if you load another instrument rack into another cell, it does not make sense to overtake the mapping from the first dragged instrument rack. also drum rack "resets" my default macro settings to 0. so when i map pan and set it C as default, drum rack resets it to 0 = left position

but if you don't want the automatic mapping, drag the Sampler instrument rack to a midi track, right-click it and select 'group to drum rack' instead.

have you tried any other key combos? there must be a way on pc.

but yea, you're right about the macros being reset. this is the same even when cmd-dragging the instrument rack from the browser onto a pad. not great. what DOES work is dragging the Sampler instrument rack from the browser onto an empty midi track and doing the 'group to drumrack' command. then you can alt-drag the pads to copy them to adjacent pads, and the macros won't be reset.

looks like "group to drum rack" is the best way. or to make a drum rack with all samplers pre-loaded :)

This is slightly unrelated, but does anybody experience really big CPU loads after putting a couple of multisample racks like this into a drum rack? I tried it and my CPU meter reached 3000% :? , are you guys using multisample mode? I'm using a bunch of stacked simplers, one per note just like you showed in the screenshot.
