Since you're a noob (no offense, you say you are), I think Komplete 6 would be a disaster for you. Yeah, its got a ton of great stuff for a reasonable price, but you would probably be overwhelmed by it. Some of NI's stuff is pretty straightfoward to use, but some of it is pretty daunting. And remember Komplete is a collection of lots of individual things NI's developed over the years, and some of it (like Reaktor) doesn't have what we today would consider a reasonably user friendy user interface. Omnisphere is the better choice for someone who's still new; you will get much more instant gratification from it, and as you learn it you can go very, very deep. And I love NI, its just that Komplete is not the best place to start for newbies. With Omnisphere, you can just use it while you are learning Live 8. Pretty soon, you'll be ready for lots more, and you can re-visit Komplete as well as tons of other stuff.

I kind of disagree with this.

I'm not 100% sure on this but as far as I gather, Spectrasonics sample based instruments have a "one resale only" lifespan, so if "southey" doesn't get in to making music, his Omnisphere package is devalued quite considerably. If he buys it second-hand, then he can't sell it on at all.

Komplete on the other hand, can exchange hands time and time again with little depreciation in value beyond its initial resale.

And whilst I agree that much of it can be quite daunting to a newbie, it should also be noted that it has enormous room for learning should he get into the tools on offer. Omnisphere, although very deep, holds little in the way of undiscovered tools, an area in which Reaktor and to some degree Kontakt excels.

Also, you can add your own samples to the NI package, not so Spectrasonics.

I can't seem to find an Omnisphere demo.....not that i'd like to download 40+ gb for a demo but would be good to have a small collection of waves to demonstrate its capabilities.

There's no reason to be overwhelmed with Komplete - yes, Reaktor, if you want to build your own ensembles etc can be very daunting, but it comes ready loaded with tons of presets and tons more downloadable free or paid on the web.

Same with the synths - NI always give you plenty of presets with all their synths and the Kontakt sample library is as big as Omnisphere's. You can get into the products deeper at a later stage, you don't have to learn Reaktor, FM synthesis, writing custom Kontakt patches unless you want to and at your own pace.

i used reaktor for a very long time and now ive bought the komplete6 upgrade. its the best bundle of software synths you can ever have for this price at my opinion. reaktor has tons of great ensembles in the userlibrary and the lib for massive/fm8 and absynth is really growing up.

i will never buy another synth, KOMPLETE is really complete ;)

simpler/racks/samples/effects - all needed.
just learn how to use it right.
spare the money. resist the consumerism.
learn to build complex stuff out of the simple stuff u already have.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

Im making EDM.I dont mind if one or the other is more difficult. Im willing to learn as much as i can. I like that theres more with komplete, cus theres more for me to learn. Im just wondering is omni over all a better synth/better sounds then all the synths with komplete.

Right now im kinda leaning towrds komplete because, theres more for me to learn and they r good programs. Omni might be better in some ways. But that means i can in prove and when im ready to buy again, i can choose omni.

I wish i could demo omni. Im gonna try to see if GC will load it up so i can try it.

And Tympanic, i could just use wats in live, but i want to explore other stuff. Work with new sounds.

Thanks for everyones input!

No question - get Komplete.

I own omnisphere, and it is an amazing synth - but its not a jack of all trades. You get a much wider variety of sounds in Komplete, and its nicely organized using the Kore system. Its a far better value if you don't already have a plugin collection.

Also omnisphere is a huge memory/cpu hog, and you'll spend far too much time waiting for patches to load.

Hmmm, i'm sure that's not an oversight on their behalf but it does seem strange in this day and age not to allow potential buyers a peak into the software's architecture.

There's a lot of official Spectrasonics vid's showing what it can do, those help some. It is weird there is no demo, but I thought I heard that one was coming soon?

You can just upgrade to Live 8 Suite. Yes, it will cost you more than if you had bought Suite in the first place.

For a beginner the common interface to all the Live instruments will make it far easier to deal with than either Omnisphere or Komplete.

Komplete 6.

Omnisphere looks great, has a lot of fans, but for my purposes anyway a Rompler even with the capabilities to warp the sounds and do synthesis etc. that
doesn't let you load your own sample content doesn't work as well for me as Komplete. Unless something's changed and you can load your own samples. :|

Besides, Reactor comes with a great reverb, drum machines, etc.

Komplete 6.

I have and love Omni, but it's strengths are completely different.

You can load samples into Ablsynth, Kontakt, reaktor and battery.
Also Reaktor, Absynth and Massive can all do so much that Omni can't synthesis-wise.
With Komplete you can the real world instruments as well as the crazy experimental synthesis stuff.

Where Omni shines is the quality of the sample sources and nice filters and generally a great interface (I think). The patch design is also great and it's really quick to find useable sounds. Despite Omnisphere's huge library of sound sources and presets, Komplete is so much deeper.
