okay okay... now maybe I don't understand this given the extremely low number of products I own made by Apple INC. (I think I'm down to 2 and Quick Time is one of em) but how is it a "great app" if its unstable AND lacking features?

I mean I get it with Live 8, theres tons of features and its been unstable, but this seems like a double decker whammy of suck and fail...

Because it's the closest thing to the lemur we have right now, but still far from it.

wow. Another reason why the iPad was invented. This GPS app is pretty stellar for less than $5. Other GPS apps of 'superior' quality go for 4x that price.

One thing, though, is that my measley $15 data plan ain't gonna cut it - because the app doesn't store any maps on your iPad. Went through about 10MB of my plan using the GPS for 45min.

Gonna be great to get this app for the new iPhone. Yummy. Bit of a GPS nut here, and I cannot wait to dump my regular handheld GPS unit. Man those things all suck ASS. None of them have graphics that are worth a shit. They all look like something an Amiga might have rendered out.

And the Garmins always give you the most assine directions. I can plot a course from one building next to the expressway to another building next to the same expressway - only 20 miles down. It'll then calculate a route on every motherfucking back road and alley in a 5 county radius. Everything BUT THE MOTHERFUCKING HIGHWAY THAT I'M RIGHT FUCKING NEXT TO. ARRRGHGHHGHHHGHGHHGHGHHH! lol.

I was checking out the GPS apps, something I don't have even minus the iPad, and I thought it looked cool but then I thought do I really want to be driving around or walking around with my iPad out guiding me. Plus I'm rarely in a situation where I need one thus never buying one.

But between this and the music streaming it's becoming apparent the cheap bastard plan isn't going to fly. Although these things are available on the iPhone, it didn't really become tempting until the iPad came out...at least not to me.

In other news it's being reported that Apple's and AT&T's pre-order supplies of iPhones have run out. I was lucky enough to lock one down and fuck yeah I'm going to print out my proof email and bring it to the store because I don't trust their online system at this point. I've been trying to help my mom pre-order one but it no longer lets you pick a store pickup location (doesn't say no, but also the option doesn't work) and if you want one shipped it moved the delivery date to mid July.

But for some unknown reason it's being suggested you can still show up to an Apple store, AT&T, Best Buy, or Walmart and you might be lucky enough to get one without a reservation. I guess it's kind of like when you go to buy concert tickets online and it says it's sold out but that isn't the complete truth because they subtract tickets for promotions, give aways, and a few they can still sell at the door.

No no. What hoff and ST8 are talking about (specifically the app) is TouchOSC's programming features being a bit unstable. That has NOTHING to do with the extreme stability of the app itself as a container for controller templates.

TouchOSC's programming function = dodgy as of the latest version.
TouchOSC as a platform to host people's controller creations = rock fucking solid.
People's controller creation = varied reliability. Some are very stable, some need work. LiveControl is 90% stable, but needs tweaking.

I've actually been calling LiveControl an 'app', but that was a mistake on my part. It's just a template (the equivalent of a 'patch' in the Max world, basically)

When I'm travelling it'll be cool to have the iPad as the GPS, but for driving or biking it's the iPhone version all the way. Having said that, there'll be some iPad car mount kits coming online that I might check out. Meant to be placed in the center console area. Big giant GPS map FTW!

I've been seeing a lot more user reviews complaining of iPad apps crashing more so than I did with iPhone apps.

Big surprise.. Half of the ipad developers haven't even been able to get one yet.
Luckily you get the crash reports during a sync to pass on to the developer.
TouchOSC is a great app, but its stability and lacking features leaves a lot to be desired.

Well it worked for the most part in 1.5. Its the 1.5.1 update that made it unstable. And as for missing features, I'm talking about things like range sliders for example.

As much of a fanboy as I am this is the first time I've attempted the day of release purchase. Like you I could wait because it's not really a big pressing need, but there's a part of me that needs to complete my Apple product acquisitions for the year so I can get the gearlust out of my system, or at least the Apple based lust.

Yeah, but I can compartmentalize my lust for Apple products into things that keep me up at night like the new iPhone and a less traumatizing list which includes a wireless keyboard, magic mouse, and another remote because they redesigned it and the 8 I already have just isn't enough.

I think I'm going to pony up for the limitless 3G plan on the iPad this weekend. So between my iPhone, iPad, and home internet I'm forking out about $120 a month to be able to reach the internet at all times, but it's worth it.

Just reread that. That's not cool at all.

Next week I think I'll pen a verbal flogging post of cable companies and their supposed money saving package deals.
