Michael Menert on Pretty Lights' label
Michael Menert on Pretty Lights' label
So Pretty Lights has it's own label and signed and released it's first artist. Michael Menert sounds a lot like Pretty Lights, almost too much, so I can see why he got signed.
Looks like signed artists are going to follow the same tested and proven methodology that Pretty Lights used, albums free for download from the Pretty Lights site and money will be made through donations, touring and merchandizing. Ahead of/on top of the curve?
There also will be or is a mailing address you can send demos to for signing consideration, but if this first artist is any indicator you better bring your sampling with layered analog synths A game.
My work computer can't load the site because of flash issues but this should be the link.

Re: Michael Menert on Pretty Lights' label
They played here a couple of weeks ago. My drummer tried to meet them and their drummer came out and laid into him asking 'Who the fuck are you? Who the fuck do you think you are? etc..' when he asked if they wanted to smoke a bowl at a festival. They put on a good show, but we got such a nasty taste in our mouths that I've pretty much hopped off the PL bandwagon.

Man that sucks. I wonder what the back story is on why the drummer was such a douche, not an excuse but we can't all provide excellent customer service 24/7.AceLuby wrote:They played here a couple of weeks ago. Sometimes these things happen when large groups of people are at varying degrees of drunk, high, or sober and the ensuing personality level conflicts.
Or maybe he is just a certified asshole.
Re: Michael Menert on Pretty Lights' label
says here in his bio that he co produced the debut pretty lights album and was in previous projects with prett lights... not a huge mental leap has to be made to see why it sounds similar. but i dl'd it and took a listen... shit is way more thoughtful and organic than the latest PL... if you read the liner notes it really makes sense as a package... the artwork and all that... I like the newest PL stuff alot... im just saying that new PL is more banger style stuff for parties and this is pretty thoughtful production
Michal Menert was born in Kielce, Poland while the country was under communist rule. As a young child, he and his parents fled to the United States by way of West Germany, becoming political refugees. During his childhood, Michal’s father exposed him to a wide variety of Eastern and Western music, giving the boy fertile soil in which to plants his musical visions early on. Coming from a musical background of playing guitar, keyboards, and dabbling in a variety of other instruments gave Michal a unique approach to composing his own musical style. He grew up in Colorado with Derek Vincent Smith of Pretty Lights, and together they played in several bands and challenged and inspired each other as they developed their own unique production styles. He co-produced the debut Pretty Lights album, “Taking Up Your Precious Time” and has collaborated with Derek Vincent Smith on a handful of tracks since then. His solo album, entitled “Dreaming of A Bigger Life” was released on Pretty Lights Music in the spring of 2010. His sound combines obscure vintage samples from both Eastern European and Western vinyl with rich analog synthesis and organic hard hitting beats. It is a fusion of yesterday’s elements and tomorrow’s ideas.

ya... bios are cheese sometimes... but i mean have you ever tried to write a bio... its like retarded hard to not be cheesy... its like common practice to blow yourself and lay on the emotion so that fans can grip on too something...
i wish that people would let music just speak for itself as well.. .i think it would be much more digestible
