seriously... not to come off like an ass, but please search the forums before asking a question. nine times out of ten, you'll find the answer. the reason i ask this of you is because this question has been asked literally 50 plus times. this question pops up every couple weeks.

its not your fault, Ableton should make this known a little more (outside of its blatant mention in the manual), but the search function is there for a reason.

anyways,
highlight everything you want to render in the arranger view... THEN select "render to disk".

And remember to unmute the tracks you want to hear in your mixdown :)

Tho a Year Later(Not Interested in Upgrading to Resolve)

I've searched the Forum and FAQs, but am unable to debug my problem.

I have a relatively simple clip that I'd like to Render to Disk as an aiff file, but continuously get no sound from the resulting file. I specify its length in the Render to DIsk window, from the Session View, but get nothing. I've also tried the Arrangement View, and highlight the time slot, to no avail.

I have the Output Channel set to Master, and only the Track Activator switch selected. When I play the clip by punching the clips arrow on, I hear the sound played back. I have no Looping or Warping selected. What's going on? I cannot follow the logistics ...

What do I need to check/(un)check in order to get a rendering? In the past it has worked, but I cannot remember what I was doing differently ... perhaps I need to reinstall? to clear out some Preference file mixup?

Thank You,

Bill

Do everything else you're already doing but
hit play on the clip and then render while it's playing.

I often find in 4.1 that if I render render a whole track in arrange view I get a wav which is silent except for one or two audio glitches. Sometimes if you change the length you render over it renders normally. Restaring the program doesn't sort it out.

Very strange. Kinda annoying

meant to say more; anyway, it is best to do a small test before rendering a big file (i think you said it's a small file, but anyway); say you have a live set that's 30 minutes long that you want to render. test out rendering just the first minute or so of it to make sure that works ok before attempting to render the whole 30 minutes. that way you won't set things up wrong and wait while it renders only to find that the rendering has resulted in 30 minutes of silence due to setting up the rendering wrong. i learned this from experience back when i first start rendering in live. andrew

Seems like rendering doesn't work for some reason ... I believe I figured out the proper settings when I'm using an audio card I add to my system, in my second Mac, and not the system audio, which is somewhat crippled by OS X 10.2.8 since I have a "legacy Mac" ...

perhaps that's the problem ... my audio system isn't connected correctly via OS X ...

Through persistant experimentation ...

I find that if I play back the clip I want to Render
AND
Stop the playback before the clip ends
THEN
Render to Disk

I get an aif file that has the sound up until I quit the clip.

OTHERWISE I get an aif file with no sound.

Any ideas as to why this occurs?

It's confusing because I have not been able to repeat my results until now. Seemed like I was getting a random ability to record my file with sound.

The "Track Status Display" needs to have the countdown still displaying to give me an effective Render.

Any ideas?

OIC ... This has the same effect ... it stops the audio playback, and gives a complete Render.

Thanks.

Edited after additional problems on August 6, 2005:

Additional Note (3.0.4 users):

If you're using the Clip Start and End as the area to Render to Disk, as in the Sample window Warping Mode, make sure you have Loop selected ... it wouldn't Render anything except emptiness, when I was using the Warp function to change the tempo of clips without changing their pitch, unless Loop was selected.

I guess this is common sense to non-Live-for-Dummies folks ...
