Sounds good to me! The only problem that I noticed was that the bass that enters at about 0:30 is too soft and buried in the mix. There are some minor issues with other instrument levels being a bit out of balance, but nothing really big.

You're right about the bass. Funnily enough I actually I actually reduced the bass because it seemed to loud. Seems my Mackies are a bit bass-heavy..
I think I've over-listened to this track over the last 24h. I can tell things need balancing but I can't pick them out- which instruments do you think need tweaking?

They have that reputation...housemunky wrote:You're right about the bass. Funnily enough I actually I actually reduced the bass because it seemed to loud. Seems my Mackies are a bit bass-heavy..
I listened to it again, and I can't point to anything specific. I think that it may be that the eq/filtering on the whole mix that keeps moving around is confusing my ears. At times, it sounds like the midrange is really boosted, making it a bit fatiguing. At others, is seems muddy, and at still others it is too shrill.housemunky wrote: I think I've over-listened to this track over the last 24h. I really like the Rhodes, but it plays just a single chord. I think that you should try alternating that with a II V I progression. The synth that enters at about 1:00 and builds to a crescendo at about 2:00 gets too loud by about 1:30. I think that the mix gets a bit muddy at about 2:00. There's too much low frequency content by that point, and I still can't hear the bass.

Version 2
Thank you for your comments so far- feedback really appreciated!
Version 2
I removed and toned down a whole lot of the filtering/eq and the mix sounds a lot cleaner I think.I listened to it again, and I can't point to anything specific. I think that it may be that the eq/filtering on the whole mix that keeps moving around is confusing my ears.
Added another chord. I tried II V I but it sounded a little too cheesy/happy.really like the Rhodes, but it plays just a single chord.
Removed the eq on the mid-range synth - seems to have improved things a little. The synth that enters at about 1:00 and builds to a crescendo at about 2:00 gets too loud by about 1:30. I think that the mix gets a bit muddy at about 2:00. There's too much low frequency content by that point, and I still can't hear the bass.

Sounding good man. My only thing is maybe the kick drum in the first minute or so is a bit much? My mackies are exploding every quarter note. Maybe just tone em down a bit. The horns are a nice touch. Nice song overall

Housemunky, Housefunky.
Very nice track. Plenty going on to keep me interested with a great break down and build up. That sax sound just works.
Thanks for sharing.

2db quieter and sits much better in the mix.My only thing is maybe the kick drum in the first minute or so is a bit much? My mackies are exploding every quarter note. Maybe just tone em down a bit.
I've also removed some of the rumble with a low-pass so should not sound as muddy.
Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I reprogrammed the drums completely. Added swing and boosted kick.
Comments really appreciated.

Hey, nice track. Like the horns and the overall mix.
Personally, it's a helluva long track so the build to the first drop seems to take an age to get there, and I think that's true of each section. I know you've added little FX bits to keep the movement going though. I generally like a punchier kick than the one in the current version too but that's just personal taste also.
It'd be cool to hear a masterred version.
