My question concerns mapping the tempo limits to a knob on a MIDI controller. Right now I have a knob on my controller (not an endless encoder, but a regular CC with a minimum/maximum setting) set as a tempo controller, with a minimum setting of 60 bpm and maxumum of 240 bpm. This covers the range of tempos I might encounter in a live gig situation, but it doesn't give me the control I need to adjust tempo in small increments.
Is there a way to map a CC to control the tempo as a percentage of the nominal value, say +- 10% of the currently-set value, instead of hard-wiring a set minimum and maximum for the tempo?
This would be great, because as it is now, if I have a tempo set, say, at 140 bpm, and I move the tempo control knob, it might jump up or down in 5 bpm increments (because of the large difference between the minimum and maximum MIDI-mapped tempo). I'd like to be able to adjust the tempo over a range of +- 10%, or even 5%, for finer control.
Set Tempo Limits +- 10% of currently-set value: Possible?
Re: Set Tempo Limits +- 10% of currently-set value: Possible?
You can map the tempo two ways depending on which you hit for MIDI mapping. The macro lets you shift the tempo a few BPM at a time, but the fine-tune-tempo one goes in increments of less than 1 bpm.
It works great with an endless rotary, but you might have to work it some to make a regular encoder behave as you're looking for.

Thanks, agent314. Yes, I'm aware of the coarse and fine tempo control on either side of the decimal point. The "fine" part of the control only gives me +- about 3 bpm range of adjustment, which is not really enough.
This might be one for the suggestion box at Ableton - have a MIDI-mappable button - let's call it the "Tempo Range" button, between the "TAP" button and the Tempo field in the Control Bar, which, when you MIDI map it, has choosers for percentage values below and above the current tempo. So, for example, if I have a current tempo of 140 bpm, and I have my Tempo Range button's choosers set for +10% and -10%, my CC controller will give me a tempo range of 126-154 bpm - a reasonable range of control for a CC with only 128 steps. And have the button's nominal chooser values in the Prefs, so that you can have a default range setting for the button, for every Project.

+1 !!
Also, having the option to increment or decrement tempo with midi Note.
Ex. For a drummer who wants to change tempo on the fly
