APC40 Noob Question

Post by EpikureeR » Sat Jun 26, 2010 7:12 pm

Hey there i just saw on a video that you can reassign the fx-controlls, for example i hat to see one knob on the filter (beat repeat), and want to put it on pitch decay, but everytime i try to reassign the knob it just don't take any effect....
What am I missing out?

Hi there,

I'll just take it from the top, in case you are not that experienced with midi mapping on the APC... If you enter the Midi Map mode and select the macro which contains the FX you want to assign to an encoder on the APC, it's simply to turn the knob while the macro is highlighted by brackets and it will automatically show the midi channel that it has assigned to that FX in the macro rack.
Now I'm not sure if you are trying to imagine that the mapping would stick to the APC when changing projects, as that's not the case! If you switch projects, you will always have to re-assign you midi mapping as nothing is stored inside the APC. A little workaround is to make a project containing only your desired midi mapping's and then saving it as the default template, but that will also yield a few problems, as you might not have the need for the tracks you place the mapping and FX racks in.

Are you sure it's to the same Bank on the APC? Try and map the desired function to the top left knob of the Pan bank and see if it sticks.

I've never had any problems with anything regarding mapping on my APC so it's probably something easy to fix :-)

/Thomas

Does anything appear in the list which appears to the left when you're in the midi map mode? It will list the Midi channel, Function and so on if done correctly.

no it doesn't
the way i try to achieve it is the following:
-Switch to MidiMap Mode
-Hit the desired funktion/knob/button
-Move a knob on the apc40
Nothing happens, only when i map makro controls

okay i will check this, but i doubt that the usb cable would be the problem, because the bidirectional communication works flawless and other mappings and controls work also perfectly, only remapping special things do not work, like changing the control pannel knobs or what i described already above

nevermind, but i really like you ableton people for being that helpful!
Thanx
ah and btw i have another question which just shot in my head.

Sometimes when I use on a channel a lots of different racks with parameters and i want to use only my makro controls (only parameters i want to change/tweak), i land while switching between the channels on some effect racks which i don't want to be selected (want only my makro controls to be selected).
Can I somehow select to NOT display the parameters of certain racks/knobs?
