dubstep makes me want to vomit. Anyone else?

Post by LoopStationZebra » Mon Jun 28, 2010 1:40 am

Fucking awful insepid shit that sounds like the deepest recesses of my inner bowels right before a major movement and after I've just eaten shrimp fajitas.

Comments?

its just a genre, has its ups and downs like anything else. I agree though, that there is some of it that is poo. maybe I don't "get it" or don't do enough drugs, but some of the stuff is meaningless, at least to my ears. There are some gems though indeed. If you would like enlightenment, just ask!

I like it when I'm drunk as fuck and there's hot girls shaking their asses to it nearby.

I only have problems with totally uninspired and poorly mixed Dubstep, of which quite a bit is evident in the Link Your Music section.

It is the new cheese in dance music though, many of the lemmings who were once producing happy hardcore, psy-trance, reggaeton and minimal 'Berlin' techno or whatever are now devotees of dubstep (and grime) and it's 'wibbly wobbly' bass and half speed drums.

I've heard some great dubstep tracks that were done well, but as usual, everyone just copies the formula (often badly) and hops on the bandwagon and gives the genre a bad name. A little originality and pushing the envelope, even within some framework, could help, but instead we get 3rd rate copies, with poorly mixed, overcompressed, clipping and muddy low end and a bunch of the same sounds and samples from the same half a dozen sample CDs.

Unfortunately, it is *along with minimal techno* the new tarnce. I expect evil, evil, evil to come back at any time now and announce he's making the best dubstep album in the world ... ;)

8) I agree

There are definitely some good dubstep producers, I tend to like when producers like Pretty Lights or Glitch Mob throw some wobbly stuff in their beats, but it's not completely dubstep'd out.. Other than that, it's like the punk rock genre - if you're not doing the exact same shit as everyone else, they don't like it.. and yet, if you're doing the same shit as everyone else, you're a poser - you can never win with these fuckers that think they have a PhD in dubstep.

Some of it quite nice, i really hate the generic wobbly bass sound though.
I like the more experimental stuff.

What i do hate though is 'electro' house (actually what does it have to do with electro i dunno)
That saw style sidechained synth is like someone dragging their nails down a chalkboard to me.

Yes that should be that hallmark of all musical genres.

I think alot of people who attempt to "do dubstep" just use the stereotypical dubstep sounds (wobbly bass etc) but do not use them in any type of context.

ie - Ends up being shit.

I think it is one of those genres that was good but now turned to shit due to imitation.

Kinda like the birth of "nu-metal", which in most cases was shit to begin with anyway.

ok.
can someone point me to some "good" dubstep then?
like funckarma gone kind of dubsteppy in recent years, but not stuff like i hate
(admittedly i liked there old stuff better)
and i've heard some good stuff sort of like wonk with "dubstep" sounds,
for example from that eatconcrete label i think is ok
(but now it says it will give me malware)

yours truly

Dubstep's far too diverse a genre for me to say I dislike it.

I can't stand that grating midrange rude-boy post-jump-up wobble shite but that's only a small facet of dubstep.
