How do you create this buildup effect?
Ive been curious for awhile how many progressive house producers create this buildup effect. example is linked below, Abramasi's "feedback" and "the way" use something like it but ive heard it in many other songs. From what I can tell they are using their lead or baseline and increasing maybe frequency? but im not sure ive never successfully been able to recreate it, im pretty sure its more than reverb. and help full tips would be appreciated.

dude that link just sent me to the beatport front page so I cant really comment on that particular effect.
However the freq shifter in Live 8 is great for builds up if you automate it, as is operator using the pitch envelopes. You can even specify which pitch you want the sound to hit.
The other method is to use white noise, try youtube for a slew of tutorials on that.
Best thing about creating a decent build up fx is that you can save it as a clip to use in other projects. As a way to experiment with creating your own synth patches I find it more forgiving than other types of sound. This is because the more crazy it sounds the better!

I'm sure there's a way of linking to specific releases on Beatport, some sort of query string in the URL... I'm at work where BP is blocked so can't help much more now I'm afraid :pItsAPandemic wrote:Gotta love full flash sitesdrchoc wrote:dude that link just sent me to the beatport front page so I cant really comment on that particular effect.:didnt realize they didnt add addresses to different sections. ill try that tip and search for something on youtube

There is. Go to the page you like, and click on the "link to page" field on the same horizontal line as the forward and back buttons within the beatport store.simonlb wrote:I'm sure there's a way of linking to specific releases on Beatport, some sort of query string in the URL... In other words, it's above the "top downloads" pane on the right hand side of the store.

here is another example from Deadmau5 - Bot on Youtube
Bot- START AT 1:22 (I dont know how to link the starting point)

Re: How do you create this buildup effect?
In that Deadmau5 song the notes don't change what what DOES change is the length of each note and probably the frequency of a filter at the same time.
If you use an Arpeggiator or the Note Length device before the synth you can slightly turn the GATE knob up slowly while it's playing and you'll see that it sounds like BOT then add a low pass filter after the synth and turn the Frequency up at the same time or it won't sound like much. Adding a bit of reverb that gradually gets mixed in at the end helps too.

Re: How do you create this buildup effect?
Sounds to me like controlling the Sustain level on the LP Filter, and maybe the Amp.

Deadmau5/Glenn Morrison - Contact: go from 2:18 on
Second and the best example
Ludvig Holm - Ripple, From 1:30 on
Thanks again for all of your guys help, im learning more than what I knew was possible

For Ripple, if you were using Operator, there is a handy knob that controls the relative Time of all the parameters. It would come quite in handy for something like that, as it would lengthen the duration of the Decay-Release of both your amp and filter all at once, giving you those bright, drawn out notes. And then as you turn it back down, you're back to bounciness. I'd use very very short notes.

Re: How do you create this buildup effect?
ive been getting back into learning operator after realizing its just as good as any other soft synth but I cant locate this "relative time" where about is it located? is it on the LFO's?yur2die4 wrote:For Ripple, if you were using Operator, there is a handy knob that controls the relative Time of all the parameters. Re: How do you create this buildup effect?
It's not under any tabs so it should be visible at all times. It's the third knob from the right, on the bottom row. Next to "tone".ItsAPandemic wrote:ive been getting back into learning operator after realizing its just as good as any other soft synth but I cant locate this "relative time" where about is it located? is it on the LFO's?yur2die4 wrote:For Ripple, if you were using Operator, there is a handy knob that controls the relative Time of all the parameters. Volume? thats my 3rd knob bottom right. that doesnt seem to be effecting frequency or the tone of the note really, it seems to simply increase the output.j.peeba wrote:It's not under any tabs so it should be visible at all times.
