Max for Live startup VERY slow
Hi all,
When I load a Max for Live device into an Ableton set (or load a set that uses M4L), it takes an obscene amount of time to start up. Is there anything I can do to make this quicker? It's such a problem that I find myself avoiding M4L which is kinda ridiculous...
Suggestions? Please?
Cheers,

Are you talking about the startup that includes the splash screen for Max for Live? Or devices you add after you loaded M4L? And "an obscene amount of time" is relative. How much time does it take?LaotzeSunHammer wrote:Hi all,

The startup including the splash screen is what I'm talking about, yes. It usually takes up to 2 minutes.

That does seem long. Takes up to 15 seconds on my system. Which is a MBP 2.26 running Osx 10.6.3.LaotzeSunHammer wrote:The startup including the splash screen is what I'm talking about, yes. It usually takes up to 2 minutes.
I would contact customer support.

Same here since the first day. Around 2 minutes with Live 8.1.3 / Max 5.1 on Windows 7 / i7 / 4G Ram
I know it's Max fault (i do Max since longer than Live and it was always a pity to wait for it to launch)

But 2 minutes? And why are you still on last years version?
I'd report this to Cycling if it still occurs after you updated. Hell, suppose you're having a bad patch and it crashes every minute.. That takes up to 3 minutes to get back? Thats insane...

Re: Max for Live startup VERY slow
I contacted Max support, who suggested I delete the preferences folder and Max application folder, then reinstall. Once I did this start up time was much faster (5 seconds or so). Of course, you're going to want to make sure anything you've added has been moved to a different location (eg. desktop) before deleting so you can put it back once you've reinstalled.
There are two things that seem to make startup time very slow: lots of file paths in File Prefs, and lots of things added to Extras. Try to keep these two things to a minimum and Max should load quickly like it's supposed to.
Cheers,
