does resetting your PRAM & NVRAM improve Live CPU? (OSX)

Post by nuxnamon » Thu Jul 01, 2010 2:49 pm

sounds stupid and but it did in mine.. sets that use to be at 30-40% CPU now are at 10-15%.. does anybody know why this would be the case? BTW, I reset it on mine because I updated the java security and my macpro had trouble booting up afterwards so I reset the PRAM/NVRAM..

@3phase: still on 10.5.8.. i want to upgrade to snow but I use liquid mix alot and it's not compatible with snow.. they freaking take hella long.. i don't even know if ableton is officially ready for snow yet.. actually, i don't even know if they are fully ready for leopard even..

Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

Sounds promising but I'll have to check with the Mac Genius at my local Apple store. I think he's the guy with the orange shirt :)
Edit: I'm still trying to figure out the hierarchy.

Amazing, the PRAM reset resolved the random high CPU usage issue on my Mac OS X 10.8.4 on MacBook Pro. This was done by Apple Genius when replacing the battery... 8)
