trance isn't really a fave style of mine, but you've avoided the cliches so that's appreciated. i listened to both while reading threads and i'd say i like the second (6) over the first (5) because of the more subtle builds and musicality of the second versus the first. my .02 cdn. andrew

Cheers Andrew,
I know that Trance isn't the favorite style of most people here but it's good to hear that I have managed to avoid most cliche's.
I'd like to hear some more feedback from others. I've also been using my new KRK's to produce with and it would be nice to see if it sounds overly muddy or if the low end is strong enough on other systems.

Great work on the first one. I admire some of the dynamics a lot.
I am listening to the second one right now. Much more vangelis, circa BladeRunner, ish. Also good but slightly more straightfoward. I just got to the midpoint break and there is a great build up, but rather than a heightened climmax there is a reinsertion of an introductory theme.
Well, quicktime just copped out on me, I only have 2/3rds of the track, so I don't know how it's resolved.
The second one seems to be distributed more liberally though not as dynamic. The first
one was showed so much potential that I returned to this thread a day later after thinking about it.
Thanks for posting, if you haven't put in your final edits yet, I'd vote on #1.

I liked the first one better also. There was a spot at around 3:30 where the drums seemed to fall away a little too much. The drums in the second were more centered, but I'd agree that the first was more dynamic and seemed to have a better developed image and separation of elements.
there is one 'trance cliche' that I think could be introduced, the phaser on the drums thing
sorry, i just think that's kind of cool sometimes.
UTENZIL a tool... of the muse.

***yep, considering your screen name, that makes sense!andrew
Other than the acid line it's tight - it really is!
Peace

These are good tracks. They have all the sounds that you would expect to hear in any other trance tune. You have done everything to make your tracks stand level with proper professionally released tracks.
BUT . . . I think you should try to push it further and create something new in the track, something that makes it stand out a little more. They sound like they would fit into any Tiesto/Corsten mix but they do have that feeling of being a 'filler' rather than a 'killer'.

I only got to listen to the one (being on slow dial up)
I agree with all the comments made, it just depends where you want to go with the song and the point of it. If you do want to make a killer trance tune then maybe pushing it further creatively would achieve this. But do you want a trancey tune which might be a filler but a solid production still...?
Not into trance at all but for this style it does a nice jobby. The twiddly riffs and melodies keep the interest too.

thanks for the comments guys.
I guess I've just gotten to where I am and I just wanted to make a really clean trance track which is fairly solid all the way through, until now my arrangements had been REALLY lacking.
It's true that the next step is to take the stuff to another level.. I've been thinkin about that in my own head too but not quite sure how to achieve it yet.
Generally I'd like the "something new" to be vocals because I am pretty used to working with singers and writing and a track with vocals or vocal samples is usually what I consider to be a complete track.
Any tips or examples of how far you can push this kind of music would be appreciated.

how about a contrasting idm section after
How creative do you want to go? As in could you see yourself making it a breakier beat maybe after one of the later breaks or you just fancy adding another clever little riff..? Or moulding into a beauitful minimalism piece using the same chords hehe depends how pushy you fancy being?

I think a simple change of style with some different musical ideas building upto the main motif will do really nicely.
