The World Cup Thread
Re: The World Cup Thread
Damn... I knew that Uruguay would win if it came to a shoot out. I'm happy for them, but I was really rooting for Ghana tonight.
You have to wonder who's being penalised when an obvious goal is turned into a penalty kick; that's a second chance for the
defending side. I feel for Gyan - but damn, that guy's got a pair for blasting the ball the exact same way on the shoot out
kick! Uruguay's last one was also pretty fucking cold when there's so much pressure!

Re: The World Cup Thread
If that had been an England player handling on the line he'd have been a hero too if the penalty was missed.
Cheating - yes, but do you think they'll care in Montevideo ?

It wasn't a goal, Suarez saved it. From a distance I thought it crossed the line, but a closer shot and it doesn't look like it to me.
Cheating... well ya, there may be no immediate honour in using your hands to save a goal. But you could say it was calculated cheating, as it was clear as day and he suffered the consequences without protest...a red card.
It's shit, but it does add an extra dynamic to the game.
I reckon.
Oh, and to be clear, I'm in no way talking about cheating and getting away with it.
And ya, I wager he will probably be getting much more praise than criticism back home.

It wasn't a free kick, it was a dive. And the Suarez handball was seen and punished properly by the ref. And Uruguay should have had a penalty but it wasn't given. Both teams got what they deserved in the end, another so-so match with a one decent goal from a free kick and some poor penalty taking.

Re: The World Cup Thread
The match was pretty decent I thought, it had lots of attention and drama - the extra time was poor (until the last minute) because everyone was cream crackered. Muntari's goal was also a decent hit, bad goalkeeping perhaps, but still a good hit.
Let's face it, compared to Algeria vs England this was like crazy good entertainment ...

That was a really smart move from Suarez. Why cheating? He got a red card.. so it's all played by the rulez
