Question regarding drums/bass/kicks

Post by sunrise600 » Sun Jul 04, 2010 7:50 pm

Hey all,

I am very new to Ableton. I come from a DJing background. My question is:

I know there are some varied ways to create a bass line; getting a mic and slapping your room mate in the face for example. However, I find I am getting caught up on whether it's okay to just sample a kick and then edit it versus buying expensive drum machines versus using Live's inherent MIDI controlled sound bank. I feel like Live's selection is quite limited, but I could be wrong.

Either way, if you could let me know what you do, or if I have something screwed up, it would be GREAAAAAAATLY appreciate ^_^

Thanks a ton~

you should do whatever you like to get the result you want. Pretty much everybody samples stuff like kicks from other records. You can also make them with a synthesizer, drum machine or buy some sample libraries. There's probably loads of free samples to be found on the net too, though it might take some more time to filter out all the rubbish
