Should I upgrade to OSX 10.6.4 ?
Hi ,
advice needed. Ableton support told me it's always better to run the latest OS. I am currently on 10.6.2.,which was installed when I bought it. Should I upgrade to 10.6.4 ?
How risky is it, how long does it take ? Would you do a backup before, like a time machine or something ?
Thanks guys.

i have it since about a week now... runs smoothly.
always do a full backup before updating an OS, it is not a large update... it downloaded / installed very fast.
but honestly if you don't have problems now, leave it, never change a running system... i just needed to update for some tests, otherwise i would have stayed with 10.6.3

Re: Should I upgrade to OSX 10.6.4 ?
I was using 10.6.3 -- and was getting clicks and pops when I used Live. Always. I updated the OS to 10.6.4 and the clicks have disappeared. Sure enough, one of the "fixes" for 10.6.4 regarded firewire ausio interfaces. It would be nice if Apple posted known issues. My laptop died while still under Applecare and it was running plain old Leopard -- I had to take it in, they couldn't fix it so they gave me a brand new one, all mod cons. Which was pretty f***ing cool, except it came with Snow Leopard, which has been causing multiple headaches with Live I suspect.
So yeah, if you already have Snow Leopard installed, go to the Apple website and download the 10.6.4 "combo" update.

If you're on an older laptop, avoid. I upgraded my mbp 2.16 2006 model and I've had no end of grief since updating to 10.6.4. Lots of people having issues with fans on full and graphics/audio issues.there's a big thread on the apple forum.

Should just be able to update via the Apple Software Update app automatically.

it's simply an update... just go to the finder menu -> apple -> software update... run that and follow the steps, easy as pie.chapelier fou wrote:No, it's a very recent macbook pro.
