Hi-
I have searched the forum for this, but perhaps it is too simple a problem...
I have bought an Akai LPD8 and installed it on my laptop; but when I start Live it isn't listed in MIDI preferences. I suspect that this isn't a Live problem because it doesn't work with VSTs via MiniHost either. The LPD8 editor works fine with the controller but I'm not getting any MIDI into the computer, it seems.
Any ideas about what I could try?
(Windows XP, Live 8.1, Dell Laptop)
Thanks-
Rob.
Akai LPD8 problem
Re: Akai LPD8 problem
Is there a device listed as 'USB Audio Device' in the midi preferences? XP sometimes lists USB controlers as 'audio devices' not by thier proper names.
This post may also help with your LPD8 set-up;
http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... t#p1150757
(It adds a top line LPD8 midi controler to the midi prefs and has presets specific to drum racks and impulse which can be sent to you LPD8 with the editor)

Thanks-
I'll certainly give that a go. Looks like a good script.
I suspect, though, that it is a dreaded Windows drivers problem.
Cheers-

Re: Akai LPD8 problem
Still no luck.
I'm assuming now that this isn't an Ableton Live problem but I'm not sure where to go with it next?

Re: Akai LPD8 problem
Mine just worked when I got it. No need for any additional anything... on XP.
Maybe you've had too many devices installed on that USB port??? there is that weird bit of Windows lameness associated with... associating a USB port.
if you know how to run a command prompt
Start > Run > (type in) CMD > hit Enter
or
Windows + r > CMD
you can run this command: "SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1"
if you do that, you can see a list of all the old drivers and devices in your Device Manager (right click on My Computer > Manage > Device Manager). Many of those can/should be removed. Reboot and reinstall the LPD8, let Windows recognize it etc. then it should show up in Live.
hope this helps...

Re: Akai LPD8 problem
Thanks- your tip is a good one. I didn't need to go the whole hog- I just removed everything else USB (I suspect the BCR2000 was the culprit) and after fiddling it worked.
The script now works really well too.
Good one support corner...
Rob.
(PS the Akai pro help was excellent too- ended up with the same solution)
