Insane ideas? Music production is all about capturing the special moment... everything else is generic music...

Why would it be wrongly to assume that? There's even evidence that its already part there and has been so for years. The debugging event recorder..
During beta's it records all the events which can later be played back by developers to see what happened. If they somehow can rig that feature to do every action again but with the record button on, they essentially built retrospective recording.

I'm guessing this doesn't rank high up their priority list, but never assume that there aren't any developers with insane ideas at Ableton.

SO youre saying Emagic circa 1988 were insane?

there was no recall of the last run in 1988.. they introduced that in logic 4 or so... rather 1998.. so onl 12 years old...

however that was only for midi.. with lives "total recal" this would be way more beneficial..you sometimes do theese wonderfull weard breaks.. but only once :-/

In this business I question everybody's sanity.

i would like ableton to do some things that no one saw comming, and keep it a cutting edge niche product rather than turning it into logic/cubase etc etc.

if they were to look at this list of requests ( i havent) i would wish that they only implemented any sugestions that dont currently exist in other mainstream daws.

i like live for what it is, i like it becasue it isnt logic, it isnt cubase.

Sure, but as long as they implement some of the things that everyone is expecting, like recording automation in session. In this regard, I hope they rip off maschine a little.

I'd like to be able to Group my Return tracks just to get them the hell out of the way :D Even just three of them on a monitor 800 pixels tall is aggravating. And silence from the "lern2bigger monitor" crowd!
si. wrote:less gadgetry more reliability... The ability to freeze tracks with sidechains and other routing & nested groups would be nice but I don't think there are many more features that should be added...

Most of the devices posted here can either be made by combining live devices (eg short delay/reverb works as a "stereo widener", sampler can be used as a granular synth, etc, etc) or in m4l... We love things handed to us on a plate tho!
I have pretty little interest in M4L right now and sincerely hope it doesn't become the "answer to everything". And Sampler isn't a granular anything, but admittedly it can get similar results depending on what you're trying to do.
I don't 'produce.' I write music.

Dont you all think theyre just gonna HAVE to do session automation?

I mean....Its an essential part of the paradigm they invented, yet live doesnt feature it and Maschine does.

How long can they sustain it without this feature??

A Redesign could have been started years ago, I guess much like apple r&d running on intel in the years before finally swapping over..

Ok, I know apple are huge,

But Seriously !

dna; Frankly if the Abes have waited this long who knows. I actually think that their marketing people have probably convinced them to wait for "Ableton X" to do it. Which means I will almost certainly be skipping V9.

Another feature that would be SO EASY for them to implement but would be almost as awesome would be multiple arrangements. Imagine a little pull-down box that lets you create and switch between as many arrangements as you want. This would go a long way to addressing my needs to record automation into session view. You could just keep making different arrangements and then copy and paste between these arrangements.

My fingers are crossed but I sadly suspect I will get neither the first feature (as it requires a rewrite) or the second feature (because no one is listening).

Let's hope :-)
