Promised review long back, but didnt have time, till today to pickup the Presonus Mobile. Very much as expected sound comparable to (same basic chip) TC and Focusrite ( but better drivers, lower latencies). Amazingly small for the 8 inputs (and 1 stereo digital). Installed and worked on Mac in few seconds, Windows took some 20 windows to say yes but also works perfectly @ 64 samples. From what I heard from support no returns so far and overall quality got better as compared to those old Fireboxes. Its is ugly like most things Presonus (except software which works and looks fabulous, no wonder since it is made in Hamburg) but who cares. Checked it with few bigger sets and it works perfectly on both mac and pc. Fine for DJ, and for musician set can be used (possible to route bypassing computer) as little mixer with some hardware synths etc. Unlike all other brands the PSU is light and small.
I am sure Babyface- probably only comparable product in that size will sound way better but cost 3x more too and "steals" precious USB port which indeed was main reason I took the Presonus home.
What REALLY impressed me today were the Event Opals on which I was testing the Presonus. I love my Genelecs but these Opals are something else. Heavy like hell perhaps too big for home studio but what a punch, definition, clarity and details ....and the bass.....and impossible to distort. In case anyone goes to test those be sure they were played for long enough, my buddy told me he was initially disappointed, only after 2-3 days of continuous play they got their real sound.
Those Aussies really bring great stuff for less money (Events belong to Rode now) first the mics now monitors. These are definitely fabulous monitors. They work on more models, sizes - something to look forward.

forget about the opals they are fake china crap and all the reviewers that gave this monitors a good name just showed what incompetent dickheads they are..
easy test.. listen to a mono file on event opals...something what reviewers for magazines obviously dont do..they just praise the wide stereo imaging...
but you test on a monofile and enjoy the wonderfull wide stereo field aswell... that even varies with your eq settings...isnt that great?
but nothing we like in the studio..
ups ..you have them allready... so forgot about what i just said..must hurt to spend so much money on monitors that dont stand basic studio tests

they dont even sell theese monitors in selected pairs... that was the first thing that surprised me when we got it from the shop to test.. because that is highly unusual in this pricerange, at least with real studio monitors ..and of cause they absolutly failed in the mono test..
beside that they dont sound bad...but also not extra ordinairy precise in all areas..they are like hifi speakers.. make more silk in the highs and more boom in the bass..its pleasing to listen to them..
but to sell theese things as studio monitors for such a price is a joke...
thanks god we have shops that alow us to test before we buy..you can´t trust reviews... and freshly born mastering experts that pop out at every corner theese days maybe know how to set a compressor..but do they know how to test speakers? i dont think ther is a chapter regarding that in mr Katz book..or is it?

Well, I heard them in a ordinary store room, forget about treatment, and in this absolutely horrible place still sounded impressive. I was checking the presonus with some of my sets I dont waste my time learning new monitoring setups, neither am unhappy with Genelecs, I know them and they are great for my ears.(from the little I heard Opals could be bit tiring perhaps) Have no idea, maybe this is the only pair of Opals that ever sounded good, I dont really care, but I am under impression you are exaggerating a bit. If not even better.3phase wrote:forget about the opals they are fake china crap and all the reviewers that gave this monitors a good name just showed what incompetent dickheads they are..

why should i ? do i sell monitors? its just allways the same with theese stupid industry hypes.. some reviewers get a pair for free.. good reviews..easy to impress amateurs..a new hype is born..rikhyray wrote:[

how much are theese things? over 3 k? i think one can expect propper stereo imaging for that price ..
And I feel personally offended that such things get hyped in my personal surrounding because nobody even knows that you test stereo accuracy with mono files.
So do the test yourself..maybe you are lucky and get a good pair..but can one trust a company that sells the stuff without checkup? sorry..that really smells like china production.. good looking.. cheap in production.. but wide performance spread and final test is done at the user.. its cheaper to deal with people that complain than to invest in production control..
does that sound familar? its the 21th cetury style i guess.. quality dont pays off..products that dont fail dont get replaced..
The opal wasnt the worst we have tested theese days..there are designs on the market where you see imideatly that this cant work because all rules of speaker design get ignored...
i think i forgot something.. tv on...

Re: 2 Product reviewes : Presonus mobile &Events Opal
well, my monitor choice is pretty well known
and reasons besides the sound itself are defo things like matched pairs, general quality control, service, longevity, etc, etc.
something many manufacturers simply fail at.

Not just Tarekith will disagree on Event Opals.
Firstly, they are made in AUSTRALIA not China. They are made by RODE who bought Event several years ago.
I have heard Opals and I think they're totally primo, as does Paul White of Sound On Sound as well as Tarekith and others.
I know 3 studios here in Toronto who just bought them as they were so impressed by them, including one mastering facility. So they're obviously Chinese garbage
Monitors are one of THE most subjective things ever, so sure not everyone will like them, there are people who don't like PMC, O+H, Focal or Genelec either, but subjectively, the Event Opal is one of THE best monitors I've heard.

for me, i am a die hard genelec fanatic all the way followed up by some of the PMC models.danger wrote:@SubFunk: what's your choice?
@3phase: and yours?
but as leeds said, there are quality choices around and the differences are to a certain point subjective, but i do have to say that the quality is a big issue with loads of speakers around, and by that i mean the consistency of the product (another major reason i am a genelec fan)
there are companies that make good speakers like adam, but it's a hit and miss to get a good and even pair... for example, something many other manufacturers suffer as well from... well if you are lucky of course you grab a 'good' pair and all is chocolate. but if not...

Bunch of "easy to impress amateurs". Only now had myself a look at some reviews and it is all clearly conspiracy of devil & AC/DC worshipers and Foster`s drinkers (Aussi wines in my case) luckily Ableton forum readers got chance to get saved from burning in audio hell.leedsquietman wrote: I have heard Opals and I think they're totally primo, as does Paul White of Sound On Sound as well as Tarekith and others.

Yup. Only the producers of Mad Max and bars selling Tooheys and Fosters and Outback restaurants with their fake Antipodean decor in the USA actually like Event Opals and Rode products mate.

All them Aussies signed pact with the devil, otherwise how could they all walk as they do, upside down without falling off the earth surface. Supposedly not just Paul White got free Event Opals, the Prince of Darkness has hellish surround system featuring 666 Events Opals, all conspiracy, see Zeitgeist III for detailed documentation.
I am so glad I got warned, tomorrow will go to catholic confession, Friday to mosque, and on Sunday take bath in Ganges, hope that will clean me after such close encounter with evil sound of Opal.
