Re-Installation of Live Suite 8
Re-Installation of Live Suite 8
My internal drive in my iMac24 failed and I replaced it today. I need to reinstall Live Suite 8. With this latest update (including content) for 8.1.4 should I just download and install that or do I need to first install the app and the original content from my discs first and then install this update over it?
Re: Re-Installation of Live Suite 8
Hi,
when you still have your Live library folder as a backup, then you only need the small (program only) installer.
When you don't have your library folder anymore, download the full installer and install the content from the discs.
best,
dfi

Re: Re-Installation of Live Suite 8
So you are saying that the full download of 8.1.4 does not contain all the content that came with the Suite 8 discs?
Re: Re-Installation of Live Suite 8
no, it does not.
The suite download installer contains everything the Suite download license involves (Operator, Sampler, Drum Machines...).
The discs contain the Session Drums and the EIC in addition to everything the download has.

Re: Re-Installation of Live Suite 8
This one is for Ableton HQ
okay - this isn't clear enough for me ...
I have Live Suite 8.1.3 installed OSX
with a folder size of 900Mb
I have gone with the 'program only dmg' route to the latest version
I now have Live Suite 8.1.4 installed too
with a folder size of 400Mb !!!
Now the Default Packages folder within App-Resources has *116 less* alp packages
this accounts for the 500Mb discrepancy between 8.1.4 and 8.1.3
Normally I'd trash the old version (without looking at package contents etc)
But I see no clear guidance here .... there doesn't seem to be duplicates of these alps in the Library folder
So am I meant to keep an old version (consuming almost half a gig) or is there a way to tidy this up without losing functionality (or re-downloading)
Have I gone wrong somewhere
Many thanks

Re: Re-Installation of Live Suite 8
Live installs all it's content like loops, clips, samples, presets.. into it's Live library folder.
Via Live->preferences->library->library location you can find out where on your hard disk this folder is.
.alp files are Live packs and contain this kind of library content.
They are archives, like .zip or .rar.
When you install one, Live will un-archive it and put the content into the Live library folder.
After installing it, the content is in the library folder and accessible via the Live browser.
The actual .alp file is now obsolete and not needed anymore.
The Live 8.1.4 installer comes either with all those Live packs or without them.
When this is the first time you install a Live 8 version, select the large installer with all the packs.
When you had Live 8.1.3 installed, then all those packs are already installed in your library and you can choose the program only installer.
Either way, you don't need to keep the Live 8.1.3 installation. All it contains are Live packs which are already in your library folder.

Re: Re-Installation of Live Suite 8
Thank you
That's very clear ! I shall delete 8.1.3 with confidence
