Live 7 + Amplitube + Ezdrummer + Footcontroller FCB1010

Post by Madureira » Wed Jul 07, 2010 5:51 pm

Hi there everyone,

I've been a lurker around here for quite some time, learned a lot just from reading....

However, I've hit a wall so to speak.

I'm using Live 7 to control my amp simulation, Amplitube, and within Ableton I'm able to map the functions I wanna change in amplitube with my FCB1010 foot controller, like stomp on/off, preset change etc.

I want to add something to the equation, though...I've purchased Ezdrummer, and i'd like to use it as a virtual drum machine, while using Amplitube to play along, within Live 7.

Let's say I add 3 or 4 midi tracks, assign a groove and some fills to each of the tracks. Then, I'd like to switch patterns with my footcontroller, in real time. Basically like a virtual drum machine.

Any input on this would be great, I've just started to be confortable using VST plugins, but this is a whole different thing for me.

Thanks for your help.

hi,

i'm using the FCB as well but your question is to abstract to answer.

What exactly do you want to achieve? what's the issue?

Check out this guide by clarity:

Ok, let me elaborate a little.

I have a Tascam interface (i know it sucks, but that's what I have for know).

I plug my guitar and FCB1010 to it, and consequently to Live7.

What I want to do is:

With pedals 1-6 control amplitube ( stompbox on/off, gain, whatever I want mapped)

Then, with pedals 7-10 control drum loops. For example:

Pedal 7 - start/stop groove 1(synced)
Pedal 8 - start/stop groove 2 (synced)
Pedal 9 - insert fill 1(synced)
Pedal 10 - insert fill 1(synced)

Is it more clear now? Sorry if I missexplained something, i'm still missing a bit of the lingo for this kind of application.

Thanks for your help.

Oh, and I checked the guide you mentionned..still absorbing most of it.

I always found it best to acheive this by reprogramming the FCB to send midi note instead of CC from the pedals.

once you've done that you can assign each pedal to do something in Live or in Amplitube, although i use Guitar Rig.

Basically, once you've reprogrammed the FCB, which is no mean feat (although i understand iFCB for PC is very useful) what you want to do is actually pretty easy.

Ok, thanks...I'll reprogram the FCB today.

But, how do I do what I'm asking?

You will find rep[rogramming the FCB a pain for starters but assuming you do manage to get it sorted so that each pedal is sending Midi Note instead of CC then:

You can simply assign your pedals as you wanted. Click into Midi map mode in Live and then click on the clip you want to activate and then press the pedal on your FCB, it will map accoprdingly. Come out of midi map mode and now when you rpess the pedal the xclip will start playing in line with the quantisation setting you have set for that clip.

You may want to map a pedal to clip stop as well.

I found it easier to have a whole bank mapped to the guitar software and then the next bank mapped to functions within Live.

Unless you're sitting down this can lead to a bit of a tap dance as you play live, but it is workable.

Hope that helps.

Yes, it does help a lot!!

Newb question, though...why midi notes, instead of CC# changes?

Doesn't Live 6 support CC# changes?

I can't recall now, but my recollection was that I got everything working with Midi Note just right in Live, but not with CC for some reason.

I think with CCs you have to adjust the value sent to replicate note on/off messages and with the FCB it was just easier to change the p3edals to send notes instead.

MIDI notes are more flexible as you have note on/off to play with...

+1 After some nifty tap-dancing I've now got my FCB to put-out different set of midi notes for each of its presets. (Took feckin ages tho!!)

Gives me 10 x the foot switches available.

Ive left a couple of the presets in Guitar Peddle mode ( using buttons 8 & 9 for the exp peddles) but the rest are just a simple progessing of midi notes.

You can drop midi files from ez drummer into its midi track simply use the FCB to launch the clips via the mappable scene launchy bits on the left...(only need three buttons: up/down/launch)
