Ha ha! You guys at ableton have done it!
:-D

Using on my macbook (see specs/hardware below) was VERY buggy with 8.1.3 and was hard to keep the program running for an hour or so without a crash.

I sent in as many bug reports as I could hoping they'd all be used and the problems would be fixed, and it seems so far they have :-) been running it for 2 days without it crashing/without rebooting the computer, even under conditions such as removing the usb soundcard while audio is playing, unplugging midi controllers while doing stuff in live etc. It's a VERY stable release so far - Big thanks to Ableton - It really lifts your spirits when you don't have to be re-starting all the time!

Everyone's system is going to act slightly differently, but I would recommend this update for anyone using similar hardware/software to myself, so far it's flawless ;-)

Wow, i am happy for you! But unfortunately this is not the case here..

Have been running 8.1.4 for a few days now, and am shocked to have to say, it's the least stable update i have ever installed :(

I sent in about 4 Bug Reports yesterday alone.. with crashes at least once an hour, while not doing anything cpu-heavy!

Am wondering if other users are having particular unstable behavior with this release, or if (for whatever unknown reason) my system is at fault..

Any suggestions welcome ..

must add, I have experienced a massive reduction in CPU average usage (from 45% to under 30%!!! AMAZING).
seems also more stable will test better tomorrow.
quite happy!
good job

Hi,

You should contact [email protected], if you've not already done it, with details of what you use in terms of hardware, 3rd party plugin etc.. We'd love to help you and understand what's going on.

Good Morning and thanks for your reply Amaury,

i sent my last (and 7th) Bug Report in last night (to [email protected])..
While i have mentioned that i'd appreciate any clues, i haven't so far received a reply (no criticism implied!), and
since i find myself in the middle of album production, i have very limited time (and desire) to wait for answers.. as much as i would like them..
since there's always the possibility Live is not at fault, but that instead some, to me unknown, changes within my system files are causing this extreme behaviors to happen...

However last night i have reinstalled 8.1.4, following deletion of all associated system files, disconnecting all ext. hard disks, and working from the internal hard disk, as i was suspecting there might be an i/o access error; Live seemed to be crashing whenever i hadn't saved my project for more then about 15 min... But to no avail..

I am now in the process of going back to 8.1.3 in the hope that this will be more stable and i can continue to work without the disruptions..

PS - The Mac specified below, a bunch of Quicktime videos (about 10 at the moment) whose audio files i'm working with, and Live's own plug-ins, is all i'm working with for the moment.. i.e. relatively low-key, not cpu intensive, stuff..

Have a nice day..

Hello,

The crashes sent to [email protected] are analyzed by our developers, but you may not get an answer per email. So, you can additionally write to [email protected] to talk to a human being, who may have clues what could be wrong. The more details the better.

Kind regards,
Amaury

I have 8.1.4 running for a few days on a desktop PC with i920 CPU, 3 GB of RAM, windows XP SP and Live still crashea randomly in the arrengement view as it happened very often in 8.1.3. The CPU usage is at 50%-60%.
I have a bunch of plugins on the audio and midi tracks plus the return tracks and I am wondering if there is any information in the crash log that may identify the plugin which caused the crash.
I already sent out the bug reports and already contacted the ableton support but I did not get a reply from the support.
I don't expect an answer from the bug report but it would be nice to get a reply from the support...

However, I never had any crash running live 8.1.x on my PC notebook without any 3rd party plugins so I think there must be a 3rd party plugin that causes the crash.

They are, but they don't talk! 8O

Bad joke on my side, but you started.. Our developers are really fine human beings, they talk, and are generally pleasant people. It's only that the role to talk to users is held by our support, with the help of the developers when needed.

while we're on the subject of replies from support...

Could someone pleeeeease explain what i must do to get the project, started with 8.1.4 back up in 8.1.1??

I have reinstalled the old version as a result of too many crashes while in the middle of a production!

But, having sent off for support, i've just received a mail back, telling me they have a huge load on mails to answer, and i might therefore have to wait longer... something i can hardly afford.. :S

Thanks for any help!!!

That's only the automatic mail that confirms your mail was received. Give them a little time and they'll get back to you.

The truth is that 8.1.3 introduced a new file format, that makes Live sets saved in 8.1.3 or later can't be opened in earlier version. I'm not sure whether or not support is able to manually change the set in any way to make it compatible with earlier versions, they will tell.
