Remote Script for Novation Nocturn and Live

Using 3.4.1, every time I unplug and re-connect the Nocturn, all four of the MIDI maps get clumped together under the Mixer section.

That's never happened to me. Are you sure you did "save as default" for each map?

I did. and it happened again yesterday with automap 3.41.

hmmm. can´t get it work on ableton suite 8.1.1 / mac with my nocturn automap 3.4.1 (not PRO)

that´s what i´m doing.

1. copied the folder"nocturn" in the folder in user/library/live/user remote script
and NOT in Contents/App-Resources/MIDI Remote Scripts (because i can´t find such a directory on my mac)

2. copied the file "UserConfiguration.txt" in the folder nocturn. without that file ableton can´t find my nocturn on the control surface. (actually reading this thread i´m wondering that nobody missing that file in the folder "nocturn"... anyway...

3. starting ableton and doing the midi preferences a discribed.


4. setting the midichannels in automap
ch1 - mixer, ch2 - inst, ch3 - fx, ch4 - user. go to each map, Clear All Controls and then Rebuild Control Map. then open the new automap file and Set as Default Control Map for this client."

everything looks fine. but nothing happen.

i have no clou.

read every thread about this new remote script. but still can´t figure it out.

i have the nocturn keyboard 25 with live 8.1.3 and the last update of automap running on snow leopard. I use this script and it work, so thanks to Guile!

But (there is always a "but"!), some functions of this script don't work. After reading all the discussion here, guile answered a men who ask if the script will work with the nocturn keyb, and guile answered that maybe we need to reaffect some controls...but how?
Some control like scene or tracks selection can be modify by changing the mode of knobs in incremental mode. But there are lot of functions, specialy with buttons which don't work at all, and it seems that it's just a problem of controls assignement...maybe it's just the midi cc of each buttons or knobs that i have to change???

For example:
-In mixer group,
* functions of page 3 appear on page 2
* in page 1, buttons control the pan instead of switching on/off each tracks
* in page 3, i have no functions working
-In Inst group,
* knobs works perfectly, all buttons don't do anything (but live see when i push them)
-In fx group,
* i can control only the 1-8 "send A. The buttons in page1 and all functions in other page don't work (but Live still see when i move a control).
-In User group,
*except knobs, all buttons in page 1 don't work
* page 2 and 3 don't work at all

please help!

Go into the Program folder and locate your Live icon. Right click it and select "Show package contents".

I'd like to change few things in the script (change order of buttons play, stop, rec and loop and delete things that I don't need).
How can I change this in the script. I've already programm in C++ so I can understand source files but I didn't found how to swap 2 buttons for example.

Can you explain how to modify the sources to do this, for example in the mixer, I don't use Rtrmut 1 to 4 and I'd like to swap it with play, stop, rec, loop.
How to do this ?

if you can't do it with the source script files just use a midi translator (like bomes,midiox...)
and connect automap output and send to a virtual midi Ch (like midiyoke...). select this as nocturn input in live.

now everything is possible,
translate for example "1RtrnMut" (it's channel 1 Note 40) to "Play" (Channel 4 Note 92).
(be carefull, sometimes note on and off are two different commands for the script if it's using toggle in automap)

for example in Bomes midi translator
you can even go deeper and translate midi to keyboard shortcuts.
use timers and define rules for the translation!! most powerful feature is to use global variables in the rules

I bought a nocturn after reading about your script, and after having read all the thread on ableton forum I tried to have it working with live (I'm on 8.1.5) without big success.

win xp sp3 with live 8.1.5, automap 3.5

-I copied the .pyc files in the relevant folder of live (I'm not in front of the studio computer now) and
the 4 automap files (FX, Instr, Mixer and the fourth one -can't remember the name now) in the relevant novation folder,
-set nocturn as a control surface in live with automap midi set,
-enabled remote in automap midi in live's MIDi tab in preferences,
and I was trying to have live's mixer working.
I could load a mixer once, but I only had one page controlling the first 8 channel's level and mute, and the second page controlling the first 8 channles solo and pan. Is there a way to have as many pages as i want only controlling levels and mutes? Then, I tryed to have the mixer workin another day but nothing, the "mixer" button is blinking and so are the other buttons, fx, inst, user.... i'm definitely making something wrong here, sorry but i don't understand what I should do.
I even can't set the midichannels like someone said 1=mixer, 2=inst etc.

should I start from scratch, deinstall automap, delete the python files and your automap files, and re-start everything from the ground?


ANSWER FROM GUILLE:

1. Be carefull, Automap 3.5 install a remote script with two pages and the same name (Nocturn). Check this.
2. You should copy Live/Nocturn folder to \Program Files\Ableton\Live\Resources\MIDI Remote Scripts\
3. The only blinking buttons are in User section. Check that Automap templates are loaded in each section.
4. Reset Automap before you load the templates. Automap is a buggy software.
5. To enable MIDI channels: Automap menu/Settings/MIDI Channels
6. First load Mixer, Inst, Fx and User at last.
6. When you open a template, Automap load in User section but you can change it clicking on Group dropdown box (left-top).
7. Set as default control map for each section (Ctrl+D).

The script only map eight track at the same time but you can change bank of tracks to control (1-8, 9-16...) with buttons of Fx section.

automap is very tricky. thats probably were your problem is.
you need to use the group assignment (upper left corner)in automap to assign the maps correctly.

first load the map, goto the map and use the group assignment to put it were it has to be.

if you put more then 1 map into user/fx/inst/mixer it starts blinking
because you have to choose a map.

midi channel 1-4 has to be enabled in automap.

you have to step through user/fx/inst/mixer and choose "save as default map for this client".

be sure to close automap after settings are done.
(if windows closes automap during a shutdown, settings will not be saved!!)

you can change the maps (deleted, change, append pages but i don't know why novation didn't come up with a "insert page" function)

On the default mixer automap that it opens with, I noticed that I use the Tempo knob on page 3 a lot and it felt tedious to page through to page 3 every time Live starts, so I made my own version of the LiveMixer.automap where I just bumped Page 3 to be Page 1 so that the 8th knob is alway Tempo when Live launches.

i still can't switch betwen tracks, i only have 3 pages in the mixer section and i haven't found a way to control, for example, track 9 to 16 and so on, just the first 8....

I am on mac and I copied the .automap files in Users/Me/Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live 8.2/Users Remote Scripts but it doesn't work.
Do I have to copy the python files too ? Where ?
I don't understand why it was working with Live 8.1.3 and not with Live 8.2 any more...
