Recording a vocal into Live 7.16

Recording Audio in Live

I seem to have a problem recording audio in Live both on my studio machine and on my portable set up.

Main machine -
Shure SM58 -> Firebox -> Live

Portable
Shure SM58 -> Inspire -> Live

The signal is "there" but I always seem to have to boost it by 10 db to get a decent level.

I travel a lot with my job, so I like to take stuff with me to work on. For example, last week I laid down a drum part, blended it with another (all from within Live) then wanted to add my guitar (Martin with Fishman pickup) and vocal over thte top. The guitar comes in fine - if anything I have to reduce the input, but the vocal is always weak.

I use the SM58 live through a guitar combo amp, and don't have any problems.

Where am I going wrong? Should I be putting a pre-amp into the chain?

There must be a preamp somewhere, because the signal coming out of a mic is relatively weak
In contrast to line levels, which are typically around 1.23 V or 0.316 V, an unamplified microphone level may be around 2 mV.

Yes - the Presonus should take care of it.

But I can't seem to get around incresing the signal x 10db every time.
