launchpad driver problem

Post by jkandell78 » Mon Dec 14, 2009 10:43 pm

Ok- bought the launchpad last week and I can't get it to function properly in Ableton.

running v8.0.10 -go to preferences menu choose "ASIO" driver type and "Novation USB ASIO Driver" audio device and continually get the message "Failed to open Novation USB ASIO Driver". I am able to set Launchpad as a control surface in Ableton's MIDI/sync menu, however, the device never lights up indicating it is controlling Ableton. I've also downloaded and reinstalled the same drivers (v1.5.4) from the Novation website with the same problem. Automap and regular MIDI control in AB work fine, but it kind of sucks that I can't use Launchpad for it's true intended purpose. I wrote to Novation support but I haven't got a response. Please help.

My system:
Dell XPS 6301 Intel Quad Core Processor Q660 @ 2.40 Ghz, 3.25 GB Ram
Windows XP Professional 2002 w/ SP3
Echo Audio Mia Midi PCI card - ASIO supported
Ableton Live LE v 8.0.10

Thanks.J

ASIO Launchpad or Novation driver. Is U/S it's not an installed component of Launchpad.

I'm surpized Ableton even allowed you to do it.

You should have your 'Echo Audio - Asio' soundcard selected in Abletons audio preferences.

and Launchpad as controller and control surface etc.

As Gregory Wells-King is saying:

If you don't have a Novation audio interface, you shouldn't select any Novation ASIO drivers in the audio preferences, but the ones of your actual audio interface.

After having the drivers properly installed, in Live's MIDI preferences, just choose Launchpad as the control surface and set the MIDI in/out ports to related ones. Then it should work.

Tried that, still nothing. I'm not impressed, this cost £150 that I can't afford :@

Well, just to be on the safe side, please try a proper clean installation again:

1. Unplug the Launchpad and un-install the Lauchpad drivers.
(2. Re-start the machine)
3. Install the Launchpad drivers again.
4. Now connect the Launchpad to the machine. There should be som Win messages that it is detected and can be used now.
5. Start Live and choose Launchpad as control surface in the preferences MIDI tab. Set both Input and Output also to Launchpad.

Nope, can't change input and output to Launchpad, only the audio interface. Could it be the interface?

I've been reading the reply's to this original post, and the only thing I can think, that is happening, is your confused as to what doe's what in your daw preferences, 8O or even perhaps on your entire system, though I don't really beleive this  so you will have to try and explain your steps, by step instruction to see what's going on.

However lets first be clear, You have on your preferences options, one tab for Audio, i.e Drivers, which for many, with and inboard or (in my case outboard) audio interface, should give you options for 'local sound card',' ASIO4All', which you should know about  or a version for your paticular interface (for me Asio for Berhinger FCA202 interface).

Check/tick for your audio inteface.

For your Midi drivers, including usb, check controllers and choose your chosen set up options for that device.

'Launchpad has no audio capacity what so ever' you should know this  don't try and get sound out of it, you will FAIL..ok !.

Any more problems, then please follow your nose to a sensible place in the manual or with Ableton Lives fantastic in built tutorials, that are second to none for any professional media software I have ever used, 'Adobe take note !!'

God's Speed Son...and Good Luck!! 8)
