@ TTaralli
I love your setup! Looks awesome!
Is it comfortable to work like that? Where is that from? Just Ikea? I may try to attempt something similar and could use some pointers.
The only thing that strikes me as problematic is the monitors being so close to the sides and back, but I love your setup!

Yeah man, that is an awesome setup - great compromise!
haha I agree with her though, while our gear does look super cool, its not exactly aesthetically pleasing!\
is it mostly a standup rig? Heh, those Yamaha's are so awesome for how small and cheap they are - we had a bunch of sets at a music store i used to work at, i almost bought some JUST because. (i can always use another set of speakers to hear mixes through!)

I'll let her see it, but it's been clear since day 1 - music comes first.Hidden Driveways wrote:I'm going to do everything in my power not to let my girlfriend see ttaralli's post.
I can be happy and alone, as long as I've got my music, but not the other way around haaha
Re: Post your set up and your sexy cat...
The desk is really easy to work at, it's probably the most ergonomic setup I've ever had. I made the height of the MoPho and Maschine the same heigh as a typically piano. The laptop and Nanokontrol shelves are about 30" off the ground, about the same height as an average desk. The shelf with the Launchpad was put at a height so it could be used when I'm standing, mainly because those two pieces are the main part of my live rig.
I chose the Yamaha MSP5a's for two reasons. First, I love the way sound and they are really great for doing decent mixes on (final mixes will not be done at this desk although I don't see any major problem it), the second reason is these speakers are front ported so they can be put in a space like this. Again this is not ideal, but lets be honest this is a non treated apartment so even the room isn't necessarily designed for mixing. I also made sure the shelves for the speakers were at the right height so they sit in the near field.
This is basically all from the Ikea Besta Line, I drilled 2 1/2" holes into the back piece to run all of the cables through , the bottom left has a drawer in it to hold spare cables etc... I purchased drawers without fronts for the rails and sawed the shelves to fit (that was surprisingly easy). The hard part was the doors. I had to buy hinges from Home Depot to make this work and it was very difficult to hang them evenly. The hinges they sell at IKEA don't work because shlves can't slide out when the doors are open. Let me know if you have any other questions.

LMAO I love the inter-web!
Re: Post your set up and your sexy cat...
You need to come out of the closet man, everyone's doing it these days.
In all seriousness though, great way to make use of the space, really nice for a compact set up.

Sweet! cheers man, will have to call in there next time im about. The lack of chorus doesnt bother me, dont really use it, but theres plugsin should I want to... But the LFO un-flexibiltity sounds a bit meh. Definately worth trying though! TarrrrrEd J wrote:re.mark, you're a manc ain't ya? They've got one in Dawson's on Portland Street that they'll let you play with, I had a right rave with it on my lunchtime the other day; it sounds pretty sweet, kind of like a slightly fatter version of Sylenth1 with a rather nice supersaw waveform.
My only complaint would be the lack of flexibility in the LFO patching, and the apparent lack of ability to share the LFOs between ocsillators, but the fact that you can patch it to 3 places at once with seperate faders is quite cool. Oh, and no chorus

Re: Post your set up and your sexy cat...
I was just having a convo with someone about how if I ever lived in a dorm or shared an apartment I'd always feel like I have to break down the audio gear and lock it away, but you could lock that cabinet up and no one could fuck with your stuff, yet you don't have to break it all down and put it away... Might look into something like that..Tarekith wrote:You need to come out of the closet man, everyone's doing it these days.

and the height setup is pretty genious, keyboard and maschine at the sweet spot, basically in your lap when sitting, then the laptop and nano up a little higher + the live rig up top so you can stand up and jam out - right with the speakers, that's tits
Re: Post your set up and your sexy cat...
wait until he hears what is monitors will sound like outside that cabinet. at the very least fill the rest of the space around them with foam.
