Hi all,
I am trying to get a particular type of bassline sound. I am close but no cigar. It is that kind of breakbeat bass sound that A Skillz uses a lot. An example of which is here:

It kicks in @ 54 secs.
I suspect this is quite an easy sound to achieve in Ableton because it doesn't sound too complex, but I'll be buggered if I can get it right!
Any help gratefully accepted...

almost on pg 2 already so thought I'd bump
Re: Trying to get a funky breakbeat bassline
from everything i've heard/read about this type of bassline it's all about synced automation/filters. i'm sure that doesn't help you much, but likely the answer you'll get from most places.

Assign a tempo synced LFO to the filter cutoff. Your vid has the bass wobble happening at 1/16ths, set the LFO to 1/16 tempo synced and make sure 'retrigger' is on so the LFO starts it's cycle every time a bass note is played. Although I found freeing the LFO from the tempo syncing for this a little better, tweaking the hz value slightly away from the 1/16th value.
The sound itself is standard saw type sound, dirtied up, maybe a touch of chorus and distortion and layer a sub under it.
Here's my emulation using Live's own Analog, Overdrive and Chorus. LFO wobbling the filter cut off at 7.3hz with the master tempo at 117bpm.

Thanks The Leveller, really useful. Is there anychance you can post your bass as an ableton project so I can take a look and deconstruct from there? I really am a complete noob with synth programming.
Thanks in advance...

I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.
