Ableton MIDI Question // HELP!!!
Ableton MIDI Question // HELP!!!
Hey guys,
Whenever I go to start up a live set, the devices I have mapped with MIDI controls in Ableton always await pickup before they respond. I have to move my controls around in order to get the values responding to their MIDI CC's. Does anyone know a way around this so that when I start up a set my MIDI controls will instantly be responsive? Thanks!

Re: Ableton MIDI Question // HELP!!!
there's a 'takeover mode' selector in Preferences>MIDI/Sync, maybe it's set to 'Pickup'?

I'd throw that on value scaling..luddy wrote:there's a 'takeover mode' selector in Preferences>MIDI/Sync, maybe it's set to 'Pickup'?

It was already set to 'Pickup.' I am going to test out value scaling now, thanks for the suggestion!
Re: Ableton MIDI Question // HELP!!!
I just tested 'Value Scaling' out, and it seems a little bit better. Definitely still not instant pickup. I set Takeover Mode to 'None' and I was able to instantly pickup my values. Do you guys know of any disadvantages to using 'None' in Takeover Mode? Does it ever lose track of values mid set or have any buggy behavior?

None is fine as long as your stuff is where you left it..
so you're saying when you turn off live, and come back to it your knobs/sliders/etc are all in the same place but Live doesn't realize that, so "None" will work fine since you didn't actually move anything out of place - but if you had, the parameter in the software is going to jump right to where your knob is instead of doing any of the fancy stuff like pickup, takeover, value scaling etc.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. Aside from the direct pickup (wherever your controller is) does Takeover Mode 'None' have any response issues?

I don't think theres anything wrong with it.. it's not like choosing "None" is a lesser option or has lower performance, as far as I can tell, it's just not going to use the other methods.
