The genetic expert (Bryan Sykes MA PhD DSc) from Oxford is telling the public that this is an extraordinary birth, putting his name & professional reputation on the line by doing so.

I think it's a safe assumption that he confirmed paternity first. Or he's an extremely wreckless expert. Which is possible, just extremely unlikely.

Tabloids can print what they like if they find some mug who's willing to claim it's true (usually in exchange for money).

What they can't do, is intentionally misrepresent the opinions of others - not without costly consequences especially if they are high-ranking professionals who's reputation is invaluable.

So far, two qualified experts at the head of their respective fields have commented on this birth in tabloids like the-sun/daily mail and also via the bbc. Brian Sykes thinks it could be a genetic mutation, Ian Jackson thinks it's a type of albinism (four types, apparently). Neither are reported to question the paternity.

I sincerely doubt the BBC, and even the tabloids, would knowingly misrepresent such experts.
